This role supports safe and efficient fleet operations by coordinating shop activities, ensuring quality repairs, and maintaining compliance with company and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and experienced in both diesel maintenance and shop leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily shop operations, including assigning work, monitoring repair progress, and supporting shop efficiency Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty diesel trucks and trailers, including electrical, brake, suspension, hydraulic, fuel, emission, and computer systems Ensure repairs are completed accurately and in accordance with company, DOT, OSHA, and state inspection requirements Conduct inspections, road tests, and preventative maintenance activities to support safe and reliable equipment operation Coordinate emergency breakdown response, vendor repairs, parts procurement, inventory management, and warranty recovery activities Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection documentation, and fleet maintenance system data Track preventive maintenance schedules, out-of-service equipment, and repair status to support operational readiness Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment in accordance with company standards Provide technical guidance, quality oversight, and day-to-day leadership to shop personnel
Qualifications:
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills involving electrical, brake, suspension, hydraulic, fuel, and computer systems Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, maintenance procedures, and electrical schematics• Proficiency using shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and fleet maintenance software Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills Ability to follow established maintenance and safety procedures Able to work effectively within a structured shop environment Able to work in a shop environment that may not be climate-controlled and travel locally as needed
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license Minimum of 5 years of practical tractor-trailer maintenance experience Must have a basic set of personal tools necessary to perform diesel equipment repairs Preferred Experience (a plus, not required): Vocational or technical certification Tank trailer experience CDL Class B license or higher HM183 experience DOT Brake Certification Prior lead mechanic or supervisory experience Experience using AMS Fleet Maintenance Software Penn Tank Lines is a privately held transportation company with over 50 years of experience moving fuel and bulk products safely and efficiently.
