THE POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), in collaboration with the Chester County Maintenance Organization, is actively seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanics. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this role, you will be responsible for a range of analytical tasks while also executing preventative maintenance and repairs on a varied fleet that encompasses construction machinery, trucks, and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles. Your duties will include servicing an array of systems, such as hydraulic, electrical, heating, cooling, and exhaust systems, in addition to both manual and automatic transmissions. You will also be tasked with conducting state vehicle inspections for all applicable equipment, ensuring that work orders are completed accurately, and meticulously recording the time allocated to each task. It is crucial to promptly report any incidents or damage to the equipment to maintain operational integrity. To excel in this position, you must possess the ability to identify appropriate repair procedures for heavy machinery and implement necessary mechanical adjustments to ensure optimal performance. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
Successful completion of the commonwealth's Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of journey level mechanic experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes one year of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License. This position requires employees to possess a valid Pennsylvania Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification on the first day of employment.
Additional Requirements:
This position requires valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations at the time of application. This position requires employees to obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders within the probationary period. This position is required to obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period. This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
