Job Description

Join the Peters Brothers Family Peters Brothers, Inc. is hiring experienced Diesel Mechanics for 1st (and possible 3rd) Shifts. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing our fleet of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and related equipment. You'll be responsible for diagnosing malfunctions, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring our vehicles operate safely and efficiently and in compliance with DOT and FMCSA standards. This position requires a skilled mechanic with a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently and as part of a team who takes pride in keeping equipment running smoothly. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Complete all required safety training and annual technical training as assigned by the Fleet Manager. Diagnose and repair malfunctions in heavy-duty trucks, trailers, reefer units, and related equipment. Operate equipment to verify proper operation, identify causes of failure through logical troubleshooting, and determine corrective action by inspecting failed parts. Utilize shop computers and diagnostic software for Mack, Volvo, International, Hendrickson, and other OEM systems as needed. Use applicable software and successfully complete ongoing online training. Perform preventative maintenance on Class 8 trucks and reefer trailers. Conduct thorough inspections to ensure compliance with DOT regulations. Accurately complete work orders, repair descriptions, and maintenance records. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area. Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including proper use of safety equipment. Ensure safe use of hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, and gas welding equipment. Move vehicles safely between the work area and job location. Follow specific instructions and respond appropriately to requests from supervisors and team members. Communicate effectively with supervisors, management, and coworkers. Respond to after-hours and weekend service calls as needed. Work overtime as required. Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations. Technical Responsibilities Proficiently inspect, remove, clean, repair, reinstall, and adjust vehicle components, including: Brakes and air systems Electrical systems Driveline components Suspension and drivetrain Hydraulics Internal engine components External engine components Engine emission components Cab and chassis components Welding and fabrication Preventative maintenance items Scan tools and laptop-based diagnostics Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; vocational or trade school certification preferred. Minimum of 2 years of diesel or heavy truck maintenance experience required; advanced technicians should have 3-4 years or more. Must be at least 17 years of age. Must have own basic mechanical tools. Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures and general repair practices. Experience with diesel engines, braking systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, reefer units, and A/C systems. Ability to read and interpret service manuals and technical documents. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under deadlines. Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety. Valid driver's license required; Class A CDL preferred but not required. PA Class 7 State Inspection License preferred or ability to obtain. Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, and physical. Must be authorized to work in the United States. Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and working in confined areas.
  • Must be able to enter and exit truck cabs and trailers multiple times daily.
  • Ability to hook and unhook trailers.
  • Must have manual dexterity and coordination to safely operate tools and equipment. Work Environment
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor shop environments.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.
  • Safety gear, uniforms, and PPE provided.
  • Noise levels can range from moderate to loud depending on the task. Pay & Benefits
