Diesel Heavy Equipment Mechanic

As Mechanic, you will work in all areas of the facility where you will be responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting tasks related to all heavy industrial equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Areas of expertise would cover the maintenance and mechanical repair of front-end loaders, manlifts, skid steers, rotating screeners, jaw crushers, road sweepers, cyclone power washers, forklifts, and telehandlers. You will also be responsible for maintaining order and cleanliness in the shop where repairs are made even if the mess is not caused by you. The ideal candidate would be capable of performing mechanical, electrical, & hydraulic repairs on any piece of equipment that ends up in their bay and have the flexibility to assist in the plant as needed to keep it running. All PPE, tools, welders, torches, etc. will be provided by Befesa. The shift schedule for this position is day shift Monday through Friday. With on call schedule for nights and weekends.

Job Duties:

• Maintain all heavy equipment so equipment is leak free, safe to operate, provide a high level of visibility, and perform their designed jobs in a timely manner.
• Maintain Bays in the maintenance shop to a high level of cleanliness even if the mess is not made by you. Includes keeping the oil storage spotless & sweeping hazardous waste into designated bins.
• Work closely with operations and maintenance to identify priorities and to get parts and tools ordered.
• Communicate effective & efficiently all needs to perform job to a high degree
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the plant.

This could include (but is not limited to) performing fire watch for hot work activities, helping rebuild a bucket elevator, assisting the railcar unloading area with equipment needs, being a confined space attendant, or unloading trucks with equipment deliveries.

Job Requirements:

• Must be able to work outdoors, in extreme weather conditions including extreme heat/cold, inclement weather. Shop is not conditioned and several areas to be maintained are in direct exposure to the elements.
• Must wear personal protective equipment on a regular basis, including a hard hat, respirator, hearing protection, safety shoes, coveralls, safety glasses, etc.
• Must be capable of effectively reading manuals on all equipment being repaired to correctly lock it out all ways, always.
• Must be able to work from heights greater than 50 feet, climbing stairs/ladders, in confined spaces, and/or while wearing safety harness or other fall protection systems.
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently move up to 50 pounds.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Previous experience in heavy equipment mechanical roles preferred.
• Competent with the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
• Excellent time management, attention to detail, communication skills (verbal and written) and self-motivated.
• Must be willing to accept accountability and work well within a team.
• Must be able to work effectively under pressure and perform duties under stressful situations.
• Ability to understand and convey verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English.
• Experience with DOT, OSHA, and all related safety regulations preferred
