Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and skilled Diesel Mechanic/Assistant to join our dynamic maintenance team. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy-duty equipment, including trucks, farm machinery, industrial equipment, and construction vehicles. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse machinery and develop your technical expertise in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and a passion for vehicle and equipment maintenance. Responsibilities Perform diagnostics and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension components, and HVAC systems across various heavy equipment. Conduct routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire service, brake repairs, shocks & struts replacement, wheel alignments, and general inspections. Utilize schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring harnesses, and electronic controls on machinery like excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial equipment. Fabricate parts or modify existing components using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, and fabrication skills to meet repair specifications. Operate heavy machinery including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and tractor-trailers safely while adhering to all safety protocols. Assist with assembly or disassembly of equipment during repairs or upgrades while ensuring proper documentation of work performed. Support customer service efforts by communicating repair status clearly and providing recommendations for preventative maintenance to clients or team members. Qualifications Proven mechanic experience with a focus on diesel engines and heavy equipment repair; dealership experience is highly preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge of automotive diagnostics, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC units, and wheel alignment procedures. Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, and other fabrication tools necessary for repairs. Ability to read schematics accurately and interpret technical manuals for troubleshooting complex electrical or mechanical issues. Experience operating heavy machinery such as excavators, cranes (including boom trucks), forklifts (including powered industrial trucks), tractors (including farm machinery), and other industrial equipment. Knowledge of automotive repair practices including tire service, brake repair, shocks & struts replacement, vehicle maintenance routines and assembly processes. Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to maintenance challenges; strong attention to detail is essential. Physical ability to perform heavy lifting tasks regularly while maintaining safety standards; willingness to work in various weather conditions is required. Strong customer service orientation with effective communication skills to collaborate with team members or clients effectively.
