Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and dependable Shop Mechanic/Semi-Truck technician to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain semi-trucks, trailers, and other commercial vehicles, such as pickup trucks, landscaping/construction equipment and dump trucks. The ideal candidate will have strong experience working on diesel engines, drivetrains, braking systems, electrical systems, and preventative maintenance programs. This position requires the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical issues while ensuring all repairs meet safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on semi-trucks, trailers, commercial fleet vehicles, skid steers, and mini skid steers. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, steering systems, suspension components, and hydraulic systems. Service air brake systems and ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations. Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, wiring, lighting, sensors, and electronic control modules (ECMs). Perform DOT inspections and maintain accurate service records. Use diagnostic software and computerized testing equipment to identify mechanical and electrical issues. Conduct engine overhauls, clutch replacements, brake repairs, and suspension work as needed. Repair and maintain trailer components, including lights, brakes, wheel bearings, and air systems. Respond to breakdowns and emergency repair situations when required. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Follow all company safety procedures and industry regulations.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED preferred. Minimum of 2-5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, or semi-truck technician. Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty truck systems. Experience with manufacturers such as Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Volvo, Mack, International, or similar commercial trucks. Ability to read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair documentation. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting equipment. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred. Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in a shop environment.
Preferred Skills:
ASE Diesel Certification or equivalent certification. Knowledge of DOT regulations and inspection requirements. Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently stand, bend, kneel, crawl, and work underneath commercial vehicles. Lift heavy components and tools. Work in varying temperatures and shop conditions.
