DescriptionJOB SUMMARY & MISSION
Reporting to the Fleet Manager, the Mechanic is responsible for performing inspections, maintenance and repairs to, and ensuring the functionality, reliability and safety of the Company's fleet of buses/school buses. The Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing myriad mechanical issues, including engine and electrical problems, etc., and maintain proper records of such maintenance in accordance with DOT requirements.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
◾Works under limited supervision and selects from written instructions and established procedures to accomplish assigned tasks; ◾Perform repairs and all levels of preventive maintenance services such as changing oil, checking batteries, tires, etc.; ◾Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order; ◾Performs inspection, diagnosis and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment; ◾Rewire ignition systems, lights and instrument panels; ◾Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisitions new parts; ◾Performs service calls for emergency breakdowns; ◾Conducts safety checks on company vehicles; ◾Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options. ◾Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt. ◾Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment; ◾Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists. ◾Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges. ◾Maintains records of preventive maintenance and repairs in accordance with DOT requirements. ◾Performs other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisorTRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
The Mechanic may be required to travel to job sites in order to pick up/drop off buses and/or perform repairs to fleet.Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
◾Associate's degree (A. A.) OR equivalent training from two-year college or technical/vocational school preferred and a minimum of 2 years related experience as a Diesel Mechanic. ◾Experience working on buses and school buses preferred. ◾Experience running diagnostic testing equipment to determine malfunctions, etc. ◾Proficiency in the use of shop tools required and ownership of mechanic tool set is a must. ◾Strong background with troubleshooting electrical problems on a bus/school bus.OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

- Basic PC skills with particular emphasis on Microsoft Office (MSWord, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to quickly learn additional software programs as required by job responsibilities. ◾Customer Orientation:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee could be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and outside weather conditions. They may be required to work in extreme cold and extreme heat and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Their work may involve risks to hazards such as: working around moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may exceed 85dB and will require the use of hearing protection.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand or walk. They will need to use their hands and fingers to handle or feel and to reach with hands and arms. They will need to use their senses to see, feel, hear, taste and smell. The employee may be required to climb ladders, and/or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to carry/transport/move equipment up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
◾Must possess a TWIC card. ◾Current driver's license from state of residence and proof of vehicle insurance with state liability minimum.
