Job Title:
Diesel Truck Mechanic Position Summary The Diesel Truck Mechanic is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, inspection, and repair work on company tractors and commercial trucks in compliance with FMCSA regulations. This role ensures the reliability and safety of fleet vehicles through preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic truck systems. Essential Job Functions Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues on commercial truck tractors, including diesel engines, transmissions, steering, suspension, and lighting. Conduct DOT inspections on trucks and ensure strict compliance with FMCSA regulations. Perform air system and brake system diagnostics, troubleshooting, and component replacement. Complete assigned work orders within established Standard Repair Time (SRT) parameters while maintaining safety and quality standards. Maintain accurate records of all truck maintenance and repairs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with the shop manager to prioritize fleet repairs and minimize truck downtime. Follow all

, and company safety policies, procedures, and waste disposal protocols. Work Environment and Role Expectations Work performed primarily in a commercial truck shop environment. Exposure to moving vehicles, heavy equipment, noise, grease, fumes, and various weather conditions. Responsible for maintaining personal tools and ensuring all company tools are properly handled and returned. Some repairs will be performed off-site, including at customer locations or roadside as business needs require. Good hand-eye coordination and sharp attention to detail are required to safely perform mechanical repairs. Participates in a rotating on-call schedule responding promptly to service calls and variable shifts. Cognitive, Physical, and Communication Requirements Strong diagnostic skills; ability to use advanced truck scan tools and interpret fault codes. Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crawl, and lift up to 75 pounds. Ability to safely operate shop equipment such as lifts, welders, and heavy-duty air tools. Effective verbal and written communication skills to coordinate truck repairs and document work accurately. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational certification preferred. 1+ years of experience in heavy-duty diesel truck maintenance or equivalent technical training. Strong understanding of diesel engines, electrical systems, and commercial truck chassis. Has or can obtain
FMCSA 49 CFR 396.25
brake-inspector qualification to service CMV brake systems. Personal tools preferred but not required (company can provide tools on loan with the expectation to build a personal set over time). Valid driver's license; Class A or B CDL preferred but not required.
