Construction Services Job Overview BCAC Underground is looking for a dedicated and experienced Diesel Mechanic•Heavy Equipment & Fleet to join our Field Operations team. In this critical role, you will inspect, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment that support our underground utility operations. Key Responsibilities Diagnostics & Troubleshooting Perform comprehensive inspections using advanced diagnostic software and tools. Identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in diesel trucks and equipment. Repairs & Overhauls Complete a wide range of repairs from minor fixes to major overhauls (engines, transmissions, suspensions, brake systems). Perform part replacements and reconditioning as needed. Preventive Maintenance Conduct routine service such as oil and filter changes, fluid checks, and tire rotations. Ensure all fleet vehicles and equipment are operating at peak performance. Documentation Maintain accurate service logs, parts usage, and repair records. Ensure compliance with BCAC procedures and all applicable federal/state regulations. Collaboration & Communication Work closely with operations and field teams to minimize equipment downtime. Clearly communicate findings and repair timelines to internal stakeholders. Shop & Field Support Perform repairs in the shop and, when necessary, provide roadside or on-site field repair services. Safety Compliance Adhere strictly to all OSHA and company safety protocols. Use PPE and maintain a clean, safe workspace at all times.
Qualifications Required:
High school diploma or GED. 3+ years of experience working on diesel engines or heavy equipment. Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills. Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in physically demanding environments. Valid driver's license.
Preferred:
Formal training or technical certification in diesel technology. ASE certification(s) in diesel repair. CDL (Commercial Driver's License) for equipment testing or road operation. Familiarity with hydraulic systems and electronic control modules (ECMs).
