Shop:
A Day in This Role When the doors open, you're the go-to expert who ensures every bus and truck in our fleet is ready to safely serve students and communities. Your morning might start with a preventive maintenance inspection and a short test drive to validate a driver-reported concern. By mid-day, you could be rebuilding a component, tracing a tricky electrical fault with advanced diagnostics, or programming a telematics device. Before you clock out, you button up documentation on your tablet, tidy your bay to company standards, and take one last post-repair test drive to confirm the fix is solid. What You'll Take On Holistic diagnostics and repair: Troubleshoot and repair systems across the vehicle: steering, electrical, cooling, lubrication, braking, drivetrains, suspensions, clutches, transmissions, and oil/temperature/gas regulation components.
Engine work:
Adjust, test, and rebuild engines and related components within your qualifications while adhering to applicable Federal, State/Provincial, and local requirements.
Validation drives:
Conduct test drives during preventive maintenance to investigate driver feedback and after service to confirm repair success.
Telematics:
Install, program, replace, and verify telematic devices for accurate fleet monitoring. How You'll Operate Preventive maintenance: Execute scheduled PM tasks for all vehicles supported by this facility.
Unscheduled repairs:
Tackle corrective work as it arises to minimize downtime.
Road support:
Perform road calls and on-the-road repairs when assigned.
Accurate records:
Log time, parts, and all maintenance/repair actions on the work tablet or authorized forms. Safety & Compliance Mindset Keep a safe, clean, efficient workspace in line with Federal, State/Provincial, and local regulations plus company housekeeping and safety standards. Perform all tasks within the scope of duties and DOT compliance requirements. Work the assigned shift and overtime as needed. What You Bring 5+ years of fleet experience with diesel, medium/heavy-duty vehicles. At least 5 years of mechanical repair on autos, trucks, or buses. Hands-on familiarity with DOT compliance for medium/heavy trucks. Comfort with computers for fleet management and documentation. Ownership of the recommended minimum toolset for Medium & Heavy Duty/Diesel work. Depth in computerized diagnostics and system troubleshooting. Sound judgment and confident decision-making under time pressure. Experience planning and scheduling maintenance (daily/weekly/monthly). Flexibility to work varied schedules. Preferred Valid CDL, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire. ASE certifications in brakes, suspension, engine, electrical, A/C; Master School Bus and/or Master Truck Technician welcomed.
