A GM Master Technician is a highly skilled automotive professional specializing in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining General Motors (GM) vehicles. They achieve this status through extensive training and certification via GM's programs and perform advanced diagnostics, complex repairs, and mentor junior technicians. Key responsibilitiesKey responsibilities include conducting in-depth diagnostics and intricate repairs on various vehicle systems, troubleshooting challenging mechanical and electrical issues, and performing quality assurance inspections. They also mentor junior technicians, communicate with customers, and stay updated on industry advancements and new technologies. Further professional development through additional training and certifications is also encouraged. Qualifications and requirementsGenerally, a minimum of 10 years of experience as a GM Master Technician is required, along with GM Master Technician Certification, often including ASE Master Technician certification in various areas. Essential skills include technical proficiency in diagnosing and repairing complex issues, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and excellent communication and customer service skills. A high school diploma or equivalent is generally required, with a trade school certificate or associate's degree in auto repair preferred. The role may also involve lifting moderately heavy objects and require prolonged standing and walking.
