Job Title:
Senior Relay Technician Job Description We are seeking a Senior Relay Technician to support testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relay systems in substations and power systems. As a technical lead, you will be responsible for independently managing relay testing, troubleshooting, and system-level diagnostics, ensuring electrical systems respond correctly to faults through proper relay logic, settings, and protection schemes. Responsibilities Test, maintain, and troubleshoot protective relays in substations. Perform commissioning and functional testing of control circuits. Analyze relay settings, logic, and system performance. Conduct end-to-end relay testing and fault simulation. Work with SCADA and communication systems (fiber, Modbus, etc.). Lead projects, develop procedures, and interface with customers. Essential Skills Proficiency in protective relay testing (SEL, GE, etc.). Ability to analyze relay settings and logic. Expertise in commissioning substations and power systems. Experience with SCADA and communication systems. Strong understanding of protection schemes and system integration. Project leadership and commissioning experience. 5-10+ years of relay/protection experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications
NETA III/IV
Certified, preferred. NICET certification required. Experience leading projects or mentoring junior technicians. Strong understanding of electrical systems and relay logic. Travel flexibility required. Work Environment This role involves significant travel across regional and nationwide locations, with all per diem and expenses covered. You will work in substations, industrial sites, and utility environments, engaging in both field and control-house tasks. Expect a fast-paced atmosphere with demanding commissioning schedules. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Albuquerque, NM. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
