The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) is searching for individuals to fill positions within the Overhead Department of Power & Way. The position of Line Maintainer 453 is responsible for the routine and emergency maintenance of our overhead and underground power lines along the Blue, Green and Red Lines of our Rapid Transit System. We utilize electricity from local utility suppliers to provide DC traction power for our Rapid Transit System. Detailed Description Duties:
Will perform preventative maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting and repairs of the traction power overhead catenary systems and associated subsystems. The overhead contact systems includes but is not limited to aerial cables, hardware, catenary poles and structures, various insulators, disconnect switches, and trolley wire. Will be responsible for assuring all equipment is working and aligned properly under the guidance of a senior crew member. The position requires working near energized equipment, utilizing rigging equipment, trimming or removing of trees and other obstructions to maintain clearance and operation of equipment on the rail. Will provide emergency response and may be called upon to provide support for other areas of the Power and Way department when necessary.
Job Requirements Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicants must have completed technical high school or post-high school courses in electrical theory, both AC and DC. Applicants are preferred to have one (1) year of experience working on overhead or underground power lines, or other related rail Right-of-Way (ROW) infrastructure. Experience must involve inspection, maintenance and repair of cables, wires, hardware associated with overhead power lines or other rail ROW assets. Operation of cranes, backhoes and other heavy equipment is preferred. Applicants must be willing and able to work around medium voltage power lines and at heights that may exceed fifty (50) feet. with no more than FOUR (4) POINTS, in the past three years. A valid
STATE OF OHIO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE
(CDL) Class A or B with Airbrake endorsement or must be able to obtain a CDL within six (6) months of their hire date. Successful candidates will be expected to pass a background check and post-offer physical that is job related and consistent with business necessity

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods. The employee is occasionally required to lift materials up to 50 lbs. The employee is regularly required to monitor a video display terminal.

Reading, watching, studying, observing, and focused listening. Concentrated attention to detail for prolonged periods of time. Auditing, inspecting, tabulating data, proofreading, analyzing, and evaluating.
Additional Information:
The performance of these duties may be required at any time, day or night, any day or night of the week. The position is in the bargaining unit. The position is also safety-sensitive and subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Examination Information:
Candidates selected to participate in the hiring process will be notified of the exact time and place of the examination. The examination process will consist of three parts: a written examination, a performance assessment, and a record evaluation (for internal candidates only). Candidates must attain a minimum composite score of 70% across all parts of the process to move forward. Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for external candidates: Written 35%, Performance Assessment 65% Weights for a final score will be assigned as follows for internal candidates: Written 35%, Performance Assessment 50%, Record Evaluation 15%. Internal candidates must meet all record evaluation criteria to gain the 15% weight. Records evaluation information includes a review of the following: 5 or more absence occurrences 2 or more AWOL or absence control suspensions 3 or more active written reminders (regardless of the level) 5 or more misses (regardless if they are active or not active) 4 or more active tardies Drug or alcohol suspension Drivers License Policy suspension (CDL or Regular) Active Decision Making Leave (DML)
