Your impact As our Power Engineering Lead you will work across Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro programmes, setting the technical direction and providing strategic oversight for complex, high‑value rail projects. You'll bring your recognised industry expertise to shape solutions, guide multidisciplinary teams, and ensure the delivery of safe, resilient, and high‑performing traction power systems. Working closely with the Head of Electrical & Power, you'll help foster a culture of technical excellence, mentoring engineers and championing best practice across the business. About the opportunity This senior technical leadership opportunity will enable you to make a tangible impact on the future of rail in Ireland and beyond. Reporting to the Head of Electrical & Power, you'll lead the delivery of traction power systems across LRT and Metro programmes, with a strong focus on substation asset renewal and upgrade initiatives. You'll play a critical role in supporting Jacobs' rail ambitions globally, contributing your expertise to major international opportunities and sharing best practice across regions. The role offers hybrid working from our Dublin, Cork, or Belfast offices, with occasional travel in line with business needs — providing the scope, visibility, and influence to shape technically excellent, future‑focused rail infrastructure.
Key Deliverables:
(not limited to) Serve as the Traction Power Systems Lead across Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro programmes, providing strategic technical direction and oversight. Develop comprehensive works requirements for substation asset renewal and upgrade initiatives, ensuring alignment with operational and performance objectives. Produce tender documentation and lead technical design reviews, while overseeing the planning, installation, testing and commissioning activities associated with long-term asset renewal programmes. Ensure all internal teams, contractors and specialist personnel hold the appropriate competencies and operate to the highest technical standards. Lead Traction Power system design activities on assigned projects, delivering solutions that are cost effective, programme-compliant, safe and environmentally responsible.
