Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious experienced Substation Equipment Technician to join our Substation Division. In this role you will be responsible for the testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of critical high-voltage substation equipment. Your work will directly ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical infrastructures.
Duties Maintenance & Testing:
Perform routine inspection, testing, and preventative maintenance on high-voltage substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, regulators, switchgear, and capacitor banks.
Diagnostics & Repair:
Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions. Perform emergency repairs on faulty electrical and mechanical components to minimize grid downtime.
Installation:
Assist in the installation, commissioning, and upgrades of new substation apparatus and control systems.
Blueprint Reading:
Interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer manuals to isolate and resolve equipment issues.
Safety & Compliance:
Strictly adhere to OSHA, NESC, and company safety regulations. Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment, utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate digital records of test results, maintenance logs, equipment history, and safety inspections. Required Skills and Qualifications Technical Skills Ability to read and interpret complex electrical blueprints and schematics . Strong understanding of AC/DC electrical theory and power system operations. Proficiency using specialized testing equipment (e.g., Meggers, DLROs, power factor testers, and relay testing software). Experience testing/troubleshooting circuit breakers, relays, and battery systems Education & Experience Associate Degree in Electrical Technology, Electronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred , or completion of a relevant apprenticeship or on the job training program. 2-4 years of related work experience working with high-voltage electrical systems or in an electric utility or heavy industrial electrical maintenance role. Additional Requirements Valid Texas Driver's License Ability to pass a drug test and background check Willing to travel to jobsites
