The Level 4 Switchgear Field Engineer is responsible for overseeing the installation, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of medium and low voltage switchgear systems in the field. This role requires advanced technical expertise and leadership skills, as the engineer will serve as the primary technical resource on complex projects, ensuring all work complies with safety standards, client requirements, and industry regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and execute field service activities, including start-up, testing, inspection, and repair of switchgear equipment. Diagnose and resolve complex electrical and mechanical issues, providing technical direction to junior field engineers. Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to support field work. Coordinate with project managers, clients, and vendors to ensure timely completion of deliverables. Document service activities, prepare detailed reports, and maintain accurate records of equipment performance and maintenance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Minimum 7 years of field experience with switchgear systems, power generation and related electrical equipment. Extensive knowledge of ANSI, IEC, and
NFPA 70E
standards. Strong troubleshooting skills and proficiency with test equipment (e.g., multimeters, insulation resistance testers, circuit analyzers). Excellent communication and leadership abilities. Willingness to travel and work flexible hours as needed.
Certifications:
OSHA 30-hour General Industry Safety certification a plus. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple field assignments independently.
