Location:
Vernon Hills, IL The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) automation equipment. This role requires a highly motivated individual with strong technical aptitude who can deliver exceptional service to customers while representing the company with professionalism and expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Installation & Commissioning:
o Perform on-site installation, configuration, and startup of SMT automation systems across North America. o Execute system retrofits, upgrades, and custom equipment modifications.
Technical Support & Troubleshooting:
o Diagnose and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, software, and process- related issues. o Provide advanced technical support both onsite and remotely, ensuring minimal customer downtime. o Collaborate with the technical teams to escalate and resolve advanced engineering issues.
Customer Training & Support:
o Deliver structured operator and maintenance training for customer personnel. o Advise customers on best practices for process optimization, preventive maintenance, and system efficiency.
Documentation & Reporting:
o Collect and analyze technical data for troubleshooting, reliability tracking, and process improvement. o Prepare clear, detailed service reports, documentation, and feedback to customers and management.
Collaboration & Communication:
o Serve as a technical liaison between customers and the engineering departments. o Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education & Experience o Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) preferred. o Experience with SMT equipment strongly preferred; other SMT/automation equipment experience considered. o Strong background in mechanical and electrical diagnostics, repair, and preventive maintenance.
Technical Skills:
o Proficiency with interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and mechatronic system diagrams. o Solid understanding of Windows-based operating systems, software installation, and system configuration. o Familiarity with networking concepts and modern computing applications.
Soft Skills:
o Strong problem-solving abilities with a customer-first mindset. o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while thriving in a team environment. o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. o Flexibility to travel extensively (up to 75%) within U.S. and Canada and adapt to changing schedules and customer needs.
Pay:
$70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
