Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The Field Service Technician is a critical, customer-facing role responsible for installing, starting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting pumping systems and associated equipment for municipal and industrial customers. This position requires strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. The technician represents the company at job sites and must maintain a professional appearance, strong communication skills, and a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform installation, commissioning, and startup of new and refurbished pump systems. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on pump systems. Conduct laser alignment and performance testing to ensure equipment operates within manufacturer and industry standards. Perform lift station inspections, preventive maintenance, and scheduled service visits, including monthly and annual checkups. Respond to emergency service calls, including after-hours and on-call rotations, to restore customer equipment to operation safely and efficiently. Disassemble, inspect, refurbish, and reassemble pumps and rotating equipment in both field and shop as needed. Be available for after-hours service callout when on call per the yearly on-call schedule. Technicians must remain within 30 minutes of home during assigned on-call periods. The technician will be awarded an extra 4 hours' pay on top of the service call hours worked to compensate for being on call. Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and wiring diagrams. Troubleshoot motors, starters, VFDs, floats, level controls, and basic control panels. Perform basic electrical testing using multimeters, megohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools while adhering to electrical safety standards. Accurately complete service reports, startup forms, inspection checklists, and time documentation using company systems. Communicate findings, recommendations, and repair needs clearly to customers, service coordinators, and management. Follow all company, customer, and regulatory safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, and PPE usage. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in both field and shop settings. Participate in required safety meetings, training, and certifications. Attend manufacturer, internal, and external training to stay current on pump technologies, service techniques, and industry best practices.
EDUCATION
High School Graduate or G.E.D required.
WORK EXPERIENCE
1 Year of trade school experience preferred. 3-5 years of mechanical, electrical, or pump-related service experience preferred.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Valid Driver's license. Manufacturer certifications, confined space, OSHA, or electrical safety training a plus
FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Able to carry out a series of work instructions without supervision. Working knowledge of pump systems, motors, seals, bearings, and rotating equipment. Ability to read technical manuals, drawings, and schematics. Ability to speak and write in English. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus. Read and interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and wiring diagrams. Must be aware of and adhere to electrical, shop, and job site safety protocols. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments, such as a multimeter Must be able to stand, walk, reach, lift up to 50 lbs., carry, pull, push, bend, grasp, and climb stairs and ladders.
