Job Title:
Assistant Field Service Technician Job Description The Assistant Field Service Technician supports the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of photo enforcement and speed systems across the Miami area. This role focuses on pre- and post-field installations, cabling, equipment testing, system setup, image quality adjustments, and accurate completion of maintenance and performance records. The technician works closely with senior field engineers and project teams to ensure reliable operation of mechanical, electrical, and IP-based camera systems while providing occasional training and technical support to clients. Responsibilities Follow established engineering procedures and guidelines when installing photo enforcement and speed equipment in the field. Stage, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and service mechanical and electrical equipment for new and existing installations. Work alongside a Field Engineer to perform pre-build activities and complete system setup, including PC, storage, router, and other ancillary equipment. Perform cabling installation and termination, including Cat5e, Cat6, RF/IF cable, coaxial, and low-voltage cabling in both indoor and outdoor environments. Program and configure photo enforcement equipment and related IP-based camera systems. Conduct and document initial image quality evaluations and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance. Interact with clients in a professional manner and provide training on relevant systems, such as LPR and SiteOps, when needed. Perform daily equipment performance checks and complete maintenance records, logs, checklists, diagrams, and updates in company maintenance modules. Maintain accurate equipment performance and maintenance records, including installation configurations, diagrams, and documentation in designated systems. Inform appropriate leadership of potential electrical or mechanical issues and carry out preventive maintenance as directed. Assist with the annual calibration of speed and radar devices, ensuring all records and logs are maintained accurately. Assist the Project Manager with pre-installation site surveys, applying training provided for this activity. Take primary technical responsibility for assigned cameras located throughout the state of Georgia, ensuring consistent uptime and performance. Occasionally drive and maintain company vehicles in a safe and responsible manner. Perform other related duties as assigned to support field service operations and project requirements. Essential Skills Practical experience in electronics, including installation, troubleshooting, wiring, and hardware installation in field service environments. Knowledge of IP-based cameras and their configuration in field deployments. General knowledge of IP networking concepts relevant to connecting and maintaining field equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows desktop environments, and web browsers for documentation and configuration tasks. Knowledge of electrical and mechanical engineering principles as they relate to field installations and equipment maintenance. Proficient experience using hand tools and measuring instruments, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and related diagnostic tools. General understanding of signage and wiring practices for enforcement and camera systems. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and perform moderate physical activity during installations and maintenance. Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions and in high-voltage areas, including at heights and on ladders. Proficiency with basic hand tools, oscilloscopes, schematics, and installation practices for electrical and camera systems. Training courses and certificates in electronic sensors and systems, with at least 2 years of relevant installation experience. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in the field. Ability to drive and operate a personal vehicle safely for work-related travel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with camera systems in enforcement, security, or similar applications. Familiarity with LPR (License Plate Recognition) and SiteOps or similar systems used in field operations. Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, diagrams, and installation checklists. Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate logs, records, and maintenance documentation. Comfort providing basic training and support to clients on installed systems. Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends based on project and job demands. Ability to differentiate colors accurately, particularly for interpreting light signals and wiring. Work Environment This role is primarily field-based and involves extensive travel between sites in Miami. The position is based out of the Miami area but requires frequent on-the-road work, with site-to-site travel making up a significant portion of the workday. The technician must be able to drive their own vehicle and be willing to spend at least 75% of the workday driving to and from installation and maintenance locations. Work is performed in a variety of outdoor environments and requires the ability to work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, and inclement weather. The job involves moderate physical activity, including carrying and transporting loads up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and working at heights and in high-voltage areas. The role requires long periods of driving throughout local and surrounding areas and the ability to maintain good vision with correction, including distinguishing colors for light signals and wiring. Work schedules may include occasional evenings and weekends depending on project demands. The environment is hands-on and technology-focused, involving regular use of PCs, storage devices, routers, IP cameras, networking equipment, and diagnostic tools such as multimeters and oscilloscopes, as well as standard hand tools for electrical and mechanical installations. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Miami, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
