Based out of the Evansville, IN office, you will support customers primarily across Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky, with occasional travel across North America. You serve as the primary technical contact during installations, service calls, and equipment training, ensuring customer production lines stay up and running. Your work directly influences customer satisfaction, retention, and the company's reputation in the automation market. Responsibilities Install and commission automatic unloading equipment and custom automation systems at customer manufacturing facilities, ensuring all systems meet specifications and internal standards before warranties are activated. Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical issues on automation equipment and related systems to quickly restore customer production lines and minimize downtime. Perform on-site adjustments, mechanical repairs, and component replacements using hand and power tools in industrial environments. Read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints to correctly install, align, and configure equipment at customer sites. Provide hands-on training to customer employees on equipment operation, routine maintenance, and safe use of automation systems. Deliver remote technical support via phone and email when not on-site, helping customers resolve operational and maintenance issues. Complete detailed service reports, installation documentation, and warranty paperwork accurately and on time, keeping internal teams informed of product issues and customer feedback. Prepare for upcoming installations and service visits by organizing tools, parts, documentation, and travel logistics while working from the Evansville office. Travel 3-4 nights per week to customer locations across Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and potentially North America, representing the company professionally at all times. Use basic electrical knowledge to safely work around motors, control circuits, wiring, and other electrical components during troubleshooting and repair. Collaborate with internal teams by communicating recurring technical issues, customer concerns, and opportunities for product or service improvements. Maintain a high level of customer communication on-site, clearly explaining findings, repairs, and next steps to build trust and confidence. Follow all safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment while working in industrial environments with moving machinery and varying conditions. Manage your own schedule in the field, prioritize service calls, and ensure timely completion of installations and repairs, even when projects run longer than planned. Support customer training initiatives by demonstrating proper equipment setup, operation, and maintenance techniques to various skill levels of personnel. Essential Skills Minimum 2-3 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience in environments such as manufacturing, automotive, HVAC, industrial maintenance, construction, or similar fields. Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including diagnosing issues under time pressure when production lines are down. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and blueprints and translate them into accurate physical installations in the field. Proficiency with a wide range of hand tools and power tools used in mechanical installation, repair, and adjustment, with at least 2-3 years of regular tool use in a work setting. Willingness and ability to travel 3-4 nights per week throughout Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and potentially across North America. Basic electrical knowledge or exposure to motors, control circuits, wiring, or basic electrical troubleshooting, with a strong willingness to learn more advanced concepts. Strong problem-solving skills and a natural curiosity for understanding how mechanical and automation systems work. Ability to work independently without direct supervision, especially while on-site at customer facilities. Composure under pressure and the ability to remain calm and effective when customer production lines are down. Effective customer communication skills, including the ability to explain technical issues and solutions clearly to non-technical personnel. High level of safety awareness when working around moving machinery, electrical components, and in varied industrial environments. High school diploma or GED. Physical stamina to perform demanding, hands-on work in environments that may include loud noise, varying temperatures, and extended periods on your feet. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical school education, associate degree, or military technical training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred but not required with strong hands-on experience. Experience in roles such as automotive mechanic, HVAC technician, industrial maintenance technician, or millwright is highly relevant. Basic understanding of electrical schematics and industrial electrical systems is a plus. Exposure to PLCs, PLC programming, or PLC troubleshooting can shorten the learning curve and is considered a strong advantage. Knowledge of pneumatics and automation systems enhances troubleshooting and installation effectiveness. Experience with welding or fabrication is beneficial for field modifications and custom installations. Prior field service or travel-based work experience is desirable but not mandatory. Experience providing customer training or conducting equipment demonstrations is a plus. Familiarity with variable frequency drives (VFDs) and industrial control components is advantageous. Demonstrated self-direction, accountability, and reliability when working alone at customer sites. Professional demeanor and appearance suitable for representing a technically focused, customer-centric organization. Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple customer assignments week to week. Why Work Here? You join a culture that values autonomy, technical growth, and meaningful impact. You manage your own schedule in the field and make decisions without micromanagement, enjoying a high level of trust and independence. Every day brings new challenges and varied equipment, so you continually expand your skills instead of doing repetitive tasks. Your work has immediate, visible impact—when you restore a production line, you directly save customers from costly downtime and earn their appreciation. You receive comprehensive training on advanced automation equipment, robotics, and custom solutions, building long-term career value in the industrial automation space. The company provides a vehicle, cell phone, complete toolbox, uniforms, and safety shoe reimbursement, so you are fully equipped without personal expense. Work Environment Most work takes place at customer manufacturing facilities in industrial settings that include moving machinery, loud noise, and varying temperatures, with potential exposure to outdoor conditions depending on the site. When not traveling, you are based in the Evansville, IN office, where you handle administrative tasks, prepare for upcoming trips, and provide remote technical support. The role requires frequent travel—typically 3-4 nights per week—across Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and occasionally other regions in North America, with all travel expenses and travel time covered. The position is full-time on a first-shift, Monday-Friday schedule, with overtime as needed to complete installations or respond to urgent service needs. Field service work demands flexibility, as you may need to stay on-site until a job is fully completed. You wear company-provided work polos and steel-toed boots, with safety shoe reimbursement and personal protective equipment required at customer sites as appropriate. While you report into a field service leadership structure, you typically work independently as the sole on-site representative, within a culture that is customer-centric, technically focused, and driven by autonomy and self-starting professionals.
