QUALIFICATIONS
JOB
SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES
Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions. Must be proficient with hand tools. Must be able to climb 25 ft ladder. Must be able to stand 1/3 day and or walk 2/3 day
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Requires the ability to read and write well enough to follow specific instructions, as well as the ability to use independent judgment, which is normally acquired through high school education. Repairs and maintains in accordance to diagrams, sketches, and operation manuals, machinery and mechanical equipment using hand tools, power tools and testing equipment. Observes mechanical devices in operation and gather operation related information to locate causes of trouble. Repairs, assembles, and installs equipment and parts in attempt to solve problems. Replaces defective parts to ensure proper functioning of equipment. Monitors the functioning of equipment. Repairs and maintains electrical appliance, removes and replaces defective outlets and minor wiring. Reports all emergency situations to the Operations Supervisor or Director.
EXPECTED BEHAVIORS
Follow all Patients First Behaviors, AIDET, and customer service training provided. Temperament- ability to perform a variety of changing duties, to get along with maintenance personnel, nurses, patients, and other employees. Must be able to communicate information clearly in conversation and written form.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Requires 1 year of trade school or complete working knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, electrical systems, as well as carpentry skills, which is normally acquired after 1-3 years' experience.
Mandatory Annual Continuing Education:
Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
WORK CONDITIONS PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
Balance and climbing ability for stance on electric lifts Climbing ladders up to 25 ft. for changing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, cooling tower maintenance Exposure to caustic chemicals and high-noise environments Lifting to 75 lbs. unassisted; ground to bench for various equipment throughout hospital (examples: pump repair and salt bags, mulch, stones, mail crates) and team lift after 75 lbs. Manual dexterity for use of manual and electric pallet jacks Patient transfers including morgue duties and bariatric patients as needed Squatting and bending at waist to reach under beds for cleaning rooms, repetitive crouching for lower cleaning as needed Standing up to 1/3 of day and walking more than 2/3 of day
EQUIPMENT USED
Additional physical and mental demands: Squatting, bending, pushing, lifting heavy weights up to 75 lbs. unassisted, and 150 lbs. assisted. Climbing ladders, prolonged standing and walking. Hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, computers, motors, phone, pagers.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Able to handle and work in various levels of stress. Inside and outside in all types of weather. May be subject to hazards from use of tools and equipment.
