Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated Field Service Technician to join our growing Electrical Testing and Field Services team. In this role, you will travel to customer sites to inspect, test, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair electrical power distribution systems and equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of electrical infrastructure while delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate has experience with low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems, enjoys solving technical problems, and is comfortable working independently in industrial and commercial environments. This position offers significant hands-on field work, travel opportunities, and career growth for technicians pursuing advanced NETA certifications. Essential Responsibilities Perform acceptance testing, preventive maintenance, commissioning, troubleshooting, and repairs on electrical power distribution equipment. Inspect, test, and maintain equipment including: Switchgear Circuit breakers Protective relays Transformers Motor control centers (MCCs) UPS systems Batteries Grounding systems Conduct electrical testing in accordance with
NETA ATS , NETA MTS , NFPA 70B , NFPA 70E
, and applicable IEEE standards. Analyze test data and identify equipment deficiencies, failures, and corrective actions. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and control system issues using diagnostic equipment and technical documentation. Perform field commissioning and startup of electrical equipment. Prepare detailed service reports documenting testing results, repairs performed, recommendations, and equipment condition. Communicate technical findings with customers, project managers, and internal engineering teams. Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and customer safety requirements. Maintain company vehicles, testing equipment, and tools in safe operating condition. Build strong customer relationships through professional communication and technical expertise. Identify opportunities for additional testing, maintenance, upgrades, and service agreements. Travel extensively to customer locations as required. Required Qualifications NETA Level II, III, or IV Certification Associate degree in Electrical Technology or related technical field preferred. Minimum of 2+ years of field service, electrical testing, industrial maintenance, or power systems experience. Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems.
Ability to read:
Electrical schematics One-line diagrams Blueprints Wiring diagrams Experience troubleshooting electrical and electromechanical equipment. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to travel as required, including overnight travel. Preferred Experience Candidates with experience testing or servicing the following equipment are highly encouraged to apply: Low- and medium-voltage switchgear Circuit breakers Protective relays Transformers Industrial control systems Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) UPS systems Generator systems Power quality studies Infrared thermography Electrical commissioning Industrial automation Preferred Certifications NETA Level I candidates with relevant experience are encouraged to apply. Training Infrared Thermography (IR Level I, II, or III) PEARL Certification CPR/First Aid Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of electrical power systems and testing procedures. Familiarity with NETA testing standards and electrical maintenance practices. Proficient with electrical testing equipment including: Megger insulation testers Primary injection equipment Secondary injection test sets Relay test equipment Digital multimeters Power quality analyzers Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills. Excellent organizational and documentation abilities. Ability to prioritize multiple service calls while maintaining quality and safety. Physical Requirements Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb ladders, and work in industrial environments for extended periods. Work in varying weather conditions and around energized electrical equipment. Wear required PPE including arc flash protection. Ability to distinguish wire colors and read instrumentation displays. Work Environment & Travel This position is primarily field-based and requires travel to customer facilities throughout the assigned territory. Overnight travel may be required depending on project schedules. Work hours may vary based on customer outages, commissioning schedules, emergency service calls, and project deadlines, including occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays. Why Join Our Team?
