Job Title:
Field Service Technician Job Description This role offers a hands-on opportunity to support industrial equipment service and installations worldwide. You will start by learning on the shop floor, gaining practical experience with hydraulic power units, electrical controls, and assemblies, and then progress to on-site field service work. The position is ideal for a mechanically minded, customer-focused technician who communicates clearly, works well under pressure, and takes pride in delivering high-quality service while building long-term technical expertise. Responsibilities Shadow experienced technicians on the shop floor to learn the fundamentals of equipment. Assist with the assembly, inspection, and functional testing of compactors prior to shipment. Follow established inspection routines, lubrication procedures, and cylinder assessment practices to ensure equipment reliability. Apply proper lockout and safety practices during all maintenance and service activities. Support mechanical and electrical troubleshooting activities under the guidance of senior technicians. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) inspections and services on installed compactors and shredders. Identify worn or damaged components before failure and recommend corrective actions. Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently to complete repairs and adjustments. Read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings to support troubleshooting and repairs. Prepare clear, detailed, and accurate field service reports after each customer visit, documenting work performed and findings. Communicate effectively with customers on-site to explain issues, recommended solutions, and maintenance practices. Travel primarily within the Northwest during the initial training period, with potential for nationwide and international travel after demonstrating strong product knowledge and customer service. Work in a variety of environments, including shop floor and customer sites, often in tight or elevated spaces and under time pressure. Essential Skills Mechanical aptitude with industrial machinery, fabrication, or mechanical systems. Basic understanding of PLC systems, including troubleshooting interface-level functions. Basic understanding of HMI screens and user interfaces. Basic understanding of open-loop and closed-loop hydraulic systems. Basic understanding of three-phase power (230-575V AC). Basic understanding of 24V DC control systems. Ability to use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools safely and efficiently. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings. Strong written and verbal communication skills for customer interaction and report writing. Valid driver's license and ability to travel, including overnight travel typically up to 75%. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks such as standing, kneeling, and working in tight or elevated spaces for extended periods. Comfort with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in the field. Additional Skills & Qualifications Trade school, technical certification, or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field. Safety-related certifications such as OSHA 10 or OSHA 30. Lockout/Tagout training or certification. Welding skills or experience. Experience with customer-facing service work in industrial or heavy equipment environments. Demonstrated ability to work independently after training while maintaining high service standards. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
