Typical work will be operating a mower and other light equipment. Ensure safety rules and regulations are followed. Performs safety inspections of vehicles and equipment. Provides assistance to other drivers as necessary. Perform other duties as assigned. Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
Operations of motorized construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles.
Construction, maintenance and repair practices and methods.
Water and sewer system operations.
Safety procedures and practices.
Personal computer and various software applications.
Skill in:
Handling situations requires diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
Providing efficient customer service.
Understanding and applying City policies and procedures.
Operating various motorized vehicles and equipment.
Using various hand and power tools and equipment.

Job DescriptionSUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Drainage Technician I operates light to medium-sized vehicles and equipment within the Drainage Division of the Public Works Department. This role involves performing construction, maintenance, and drainage system operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and assisting other team members as needed.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates light to medium sized equipment in the performance of a variety of construction, maintenance, and other work in combination with assigned vehicle's operation or mode of function and performance light to heavy physical labor.Typical work will be operating a mower and other light equipment. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of heavy equipment and vehicle operations experience; ORan equivalent combination of education and experience.LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, potential physical harm, hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. May be required to work in confined spaces. May be required to climb ladders. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
