Job Description

Connect Staffing is hiring a Field Service Technician for a solar energy and battery energy storage company based in Houston, TX. In this role, you will commission, test, and troubleshoot battery energy storage systems (BESS), including inverters, power conversion systems (PCS), and battery modules at utility-scale and commercial sites across the region. This position requires approximately 80% travel and offers consistent weekly overtime of about 5 hours.

Mixed Indoor/Outdoor - utility-scale and commercial energy storage sites
Overtime:
Weekly OT required Responsibilities Commission, pre-commission, and test BESS equipment, including inverters, PCS, and battery modules, at utility-scale and commercial sites. Configure system software, set operating parameters, and verify performance against design specifications. Troubleshoot electrical, control system, and communication faults using multimeters, clamp meters, and oscilloscopes. Respond to alarms, faults, and abnormal system conditions, escalating complex issues to engineering teams. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on BESS components. Maintain accurate service records, logs, and site documentation, and communicate status updates to customers and site staff. Minimum Requirements 3+ years of experience as a field service technician, electrical technician, or similar role in energy storage, solar, or electrical systems (within the last 5 years). Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience in field service, electrical maintenance, or energy storage system operations. Familiarity with SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) or DCS (Distributed Control System) platforms, or communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN, or Ethernet. Experience troubleshooting and repairing medium-voltage AC/DC systems, inverters, and battery modules. Experience performing site commissioning, start-up, and testing procedures for energy storage or renewable energy projects. Familiarity with electrical safety practices, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and arc flash awareness. Associate's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. Hands-on experience commissioning, operating, or troubleshooting BESS equipment — including inverters, PCS (power conversion systems), battery modules, and grid-tied systems. Ability to read electrical schematics and diagrams and perform system diagnostics using electrical test equipment (multimeter, clamp meter, oscilloscope).
