POSITION SUMMARY
This
FULL-TIME
position pays $17.14 per hour and is located in Newport News, Virginia. The Crew Technician is responsible for assisting with the maintenance, installation, and repair of the water distribution system, operating necessary equipment, supporting site restoration efforts, following safety procedures, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining accurate records, and related duties as assigned. Ideal candidates are dependable, safety-conscious professionals with strong teamwork skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment, and other duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions: Assists with performing scheduled and preventative maintenance and installation on the water distribution system; repairs water leaks, mains, services, and meters as needed. Prepares reports, daily records, and required documentation accurately and efficiently. Operates equipment such as line trucks, dump trucks, valve trucks, and hydrant trucks as necessary for job completion. Assists with water quality flushing activities and water main shut-offs when required. Assists with asphalt operations and performs general landscaping duties at project sites following completion of work. Follows proper safety procedures to ensure the safety of equipment, coworkers, and the public. Ensures all activities and site conditions comply with federal, state, and local regulations, policies, and procedures. Performs routine checks, preventative maintenance, installation, and repair of related equipment. Identifies and reports equipment malfunctions in a timely manner. Cleans and maintains equipment to ensure safe and effective operation. Participates in developing departmental goals, objectives, and operational systems. Attends staff meetings, training sessions, seminars, and other assigned meetings. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve department efficiency and service performance. Efficiently performs duties as assigned and works collaboratively as part of the division and company team. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in construction, utilities, maintenance, public works, or a related field is preferred. Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery used in water distribution and maintenance operations. Valid driver's license and clean driving record is needed. Must pass background check and drug test. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and working outdoors. Must be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds at times. Ability to safely perform physical labor associated with maintenance and repair operations.
