Capital Transit is seeking a Mechanic II to join the team!

We are seeking candidates with previous experience with diesel and internal combustion engine repair, ability to read electrical wiring diagrams, mechanical repair schematics and has the ability to work well independently and as part of a team to stay on task to meet constantly changing deadlines and priorities.

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION
This position typically works 4 consecutive days, 10-hour shifts. The 4 consecutive days will be between Monday and Saturday, 6:30am - 5:00pm at the Capital Transit Bus Barn Maintenance Facility in the Valley and is on rotation for standby during Capital Transit operational hours. The actual shift may vary. This is a Long-Term Temporary journey-level mechanic position that independently performs both routine and complex maintenance and repairs. This position requires advanced technical knowledge and skills to perform corrective and preventative maintenance on all Capital Transit vehicles and equipment. Types of Transit equipment include diesel and electric buses, paratransit vans, service support vehicles, and snow removal equipment. Particular attention will be given to a systematic and timely approach to performing quality repairs and maintenance. The Mechanic will work closely with the Supervisor to assist in system analysis and policy implementation.
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in automotive, construction/heavy equipment, truck, or transit bus repair and maintenance as appropriate to specific position.
Substitution:
Post-secondary education or technical training in automotive work may be substituted for the required experience on the basis of 125 clock hours of instruction for one month of experience up to a maximum of twenty-four months.
Other:
Must provide and maintain own set of hand tools.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The position is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to United States Department of Transportation (USDOT)- Federal Transit Administration (FTA) drug and alcohol testing. Additionally, applicants of safety-sensitive positions are required (even if ultimately not hired) to provide the City and Borough of Juneau with signed written releases requesting USDOT drug and alcohol records from all previous, USDOT-covered employers that the applicant has worked for within the last two years. Failure to do so will result in the employment offer being rescinded. The City and Borough of Juneau is also required to ask all applicants (even if not ultimately not hired) if they have tested positive or refused to test on pre-employment test for any USDOT covered employer within the last two years. Appointments will be made conditionally pending successful completion of all portions of the selections process, a medical evaluation
  • and receipt of verified negative results of pre-employment testing for controlled substances. Employees are then subject to random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty- and follow-up drug and alcohol as mandated by the Federal Transit Administration and CBJ policy.
