Shop Mechanic Reports to:
Fleet & Facilities Manager Location:
Bay Landscaping Position Overview The Shop Mechanic is responsible for the hands-on maintenance, diagnostic testing, and repair of all company equipment. This role focuses on ensuring that mowers, vehicles, and small engines are field-ready and that the facility grounds remain organized. You will utilize heavy equipment to manage yard materials and ensure the fleet operates at peak efficiency through rigorous preventative maintenance.
Key Responsibilities Mechanical & Diagnostic Work Mower Specialist:
Perform full-service repairs, complex diagnostics, and routine maintenance on all commercial mowing equipment.
Small Engine Repair:
Maintain and repair 2-cycle and gasoline-powered handheld equipment.
Fleet Maintenance:
Service gasoline and diesel vehicles and heavy equipment as skill sets allow. Preventative Maintenance (PM): Execute PM schedules for all machinery to minimize field downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
Yard & Facility Operations Heavy Equipment Operation:
Utilize loaders, forklifts, or other heavy machinery to move delivered materials, organize inventory, and maintain the yard.
Debris Management:
Haul green debris to the dump and ensure the shop and outside grounds remain clean, safe, and professional in appearance.
Inventory Handling:
Assist in receiving parts and consumable materials, ensuring they are organized and available for daily use.
Safety & Quality Control Safety Inspections:
Conduct regular safety checks on all equipment before it leaves the shop.
Work Orders:
Update maintenance tracking software to document repairs, parts used, and completed tasks.
Grounds Security:
Ensure the facility grounds are secure and equipment is stored properly at the end of each shift.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Mechanical Expertise:
Strong diagnostic and repair skills for commercial mowers and small engines.
Heavy Equipment Proficiency:
Experience operating machinery to move bulk materials and organize a yard.
Problem Solver:
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical failures quickly to minimize downtime.
Team Player:
Willingness to assist with various physical tasks around the shop and yard as needed.
Organizational Skills:
Ability to keep a clean, efficient workspace and track parts inventory. Physical Requirements Ability to lift heavy parts and equipment regularly. Comfort working in a shop environment and outdoors in various weather conditions. Manual dexterity required for fine mechanical repairs. Perform other duties as needed by the Fleet & Facilities Manager.
