Job Description

Performs routine and preventative maintenance on automobiles, buses, trucks, tractors, small engines, and other automotive equipment utilized by the Tuscaloosa County ParkRecreation Authority (PARA). Diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and ensure all vehicles and equipment remain in safe, dependable, and operational condition. Maintains accurate inventory records and detailed service histories for each asset, including documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used. Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License with an acceptable driving record. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B minimum, is required; Class A is preferred. The CDL must be obtained within 120 days of employment if not already held at the time of hire. Must possess ASE certification. Essential Functions Adjust work schedule as required to meet operational demands, including emergency repairs, breakdowns, early-morning, late-evening, and weekend travel departures. Repairs and operates a wide variety of automotive and maintenance equipment; prioritizes repairs based on operational need and safety requirements. Inspects equipment to determine the extent of damage or malfunction; estimates repair requirements, develops repair plans, and reviews options with supervisor. Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with the public, PARA staff, vendors, and automotive suppliers. Prepares purchase orders, obtains competitive quotes, compares pricing and services, and makes recommendations on repairs and procurement. Performs repairs in both shop and field environments. Disassembles equipment, inspects components for wear, and completes necessary overhauls or replacements. Repairs or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, pumps, and related components. Performs minor electrical repairs, including rewiring ignition systems, trailer lighting, starters, and instrument panels. Realigns and adjusts brakes; repairs or replaces shock absorbers and related suspension components. Performs routine maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid services, and minor repairs, on all assigned equipment. Repairs, replaces, and adjusts headlights and installs or services accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers. Performs maintenance and tune-ups on small engine equipment, including blowers, weed trimmers, lawn mowers, and chainsaws. Maintains accurate inventory of parts and supplies, vehicle records, warranty documentation, and preventive maintenance schedules. Operates vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B minimum (Class A preferred). Complies with all PARA policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee and Administrative Handbooks. Performs other duties as assigned.
