This position requires a versatile, multi-craft mechanic with experience in hydraulic, diesel, electrical, and mechanical systems who can work independently in a field-service environment. Ensures the operational condition of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements and repairs on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, heavy machines and equipment, and production equipment; following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; and troubleshooting malfunctions. Maintains and repairs a diverse fleet of equipment, including front-end loaders, forklifts, material handlers, dock winches, Manitowoc cranes, and semi-trucks. Diagnoses and repairs hydraulic, diesel engine, electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems on heavy equipment and terminal assets. Performs field-based maintenance and repairs with limited vendor support and without reliance on a traditional maintenance shop environment. Independently troubleshoots equipment failures, identifies root causes, and develops effective repair solutions to minimize operational downtime. Performs welding and fabrication work as needed to support equipment repairs, modifications, and operational requirements. Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using measuring and testing equipment. Controls downtime by informing managers of routine maintenance scheduling and techniques. Develops and maintains professional working relationships with outside parts and supply vendors, and service companies. Maintains equipment parts and supply inventories by determining appropriate inventory levels and controlling the inventory stock; anticipating needed repairs and pre-ordering parts and supplies to ensure all maintenance and repair is performed in a manner to support operational efficiency. Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Maintains logs detailing equipment repairs and maintenance and adheres to the equipment maintenance schedule. Reports problems and issues to the appropriate. Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:
2+ years of experience in maintaining and repairing a variety of heavy equipment, including forklifts, loaders, cranes, material handlers, and diesel-powered equipment. Experience with power and hand tools. Strong working knowledge of hydraulic, diesel, electrical, and mechanical systems. Ability to independently diagnose and repair equipment failures with minimal supervision. Experience performing maintenance and repairs in field environments rather than a traditional shop setting. Welding and fabrication experience is highly desirable. Experience limited solely to truck repair or forklift maintenance may not provide the breadth of experience required for this role. Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations. Knowledge and understanding of parts and supply inventory management. Strong communication skills. Required to observe all safety and health requirements.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No Work environment: Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights. Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures of hot and cold, extremely dusty conditions, and occasionally, conditions of high levels of noise.
