Job Description

Overview The Lead Mechanic provides technical leadership, direction, and support to maintenance personnel while ensuring that all repairs and preventative maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The Lead Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of company fleet assets, including aerial equipment, bucket trucks, cranes, puller tensioners, trailers, compressors, construction equipment, pickup trucks, medium-duty trucks, and hydraulic systems. RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and assist technicians in performing preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs. Assign, prioritize, and coordinate daily maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime. Diagnose and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and electronic system failures. Perform advanced troubleshooting using diagnostic software, OEM service information, and electronic testing equipment. Repair and maintain diesel and gasoline engines, drivetrains, steering systems, suspensions, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, HVAC systems, and electrical systems. Inspect, repair, and maintain aerial lifts, bucket trucks, cranes, trailers, pullers, tensioners, compressors, and construction equipment. Perform welding, fabrication, and equipment modifications as required. Review completed repairs for quality, safety, and compliance with company standards. Coordinate and inspect repairs completed by third-party vendors. Monitor work order completion, labor tracking, inspections, and preventative maintenance schedules within Fleetio. Assist with inventory control, parts procurement, and vendor coordination. Ensure compliance with DOT, BIT, OSHA, manufacturer, and company maintenance requirements. Conduct equipment inspections and identify safety concerns before failures occur. Assist with technician training, coaching, and skill development. Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and repair documentation. Act in the absence of the Division Fleet Manager or Maintenance Supervisor as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred. Minimum 5 years of experience repairing heavy-duty trucks, utility equipment, construction equipment, or aerial equipment. Minimum 1 year of lead technician, foreman, or supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, air brakes, emissions systems, and aerial equipment. Ability to perform advanced diagnostics and repairs with minimal supervision. Experience using Fleetio or similar maintenance software preferred. Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred. ASE Certifications (T1-T8) preferred. Knowledge of OSHA, Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, DOT, and BIT inspection requirements preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces throughout the shift. Work performed in shop and field environments. Exposure to weather conditions, noise, heavy equipment, and construction sites. May require overtime, travel, emergency call-outs, and after-hours support.

$54.00 per hour
