Job Description
Fleet Services is seeking a skilled and motivated Heavy Mechanic Technician I/II to join our team. This position is responsible for performing maintenance, repair, and overhaul of a variety of light and heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Under general supervision, locates mechanical trouble, and repairs and overhauls automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment; does arc and gas welding; and other related work as required. Equipment Mechanic I Typical Tasks and Representative Duties Assists in the inspection and location of mechanical defects in automobiles, trucks, tractors, power shovels, mowers, motor graders, loaders, rollers, and other types of mechanical equipment used in public works maintenance, grounds maintenance, and construction; assists in making major and minor mechanical repairs, including general overhauls; tears down, replaces and reassembles transmissions and differentials, hydraulic and electrical systems; relines and adjusts brakes; rebuilds, sharpens mower cutting units; does safety inspections of golf carts; changes and repairs tires; welds; keeps maintenance records and orders repair parts; and operates a truck and other motorized equipment as required.
Employment Standards Knowledge of :
The operating principles of automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment; the methods, equipment and tools required in the repair of automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment. Ability to : Diagnose mechanical troubles; use sound judgment; operate trucks and construction equipment; work cooperatively with others; use the methods, equipment and tools required in the repair of automotive, grounds maintenance and construction equipment. Stand for long periods of time; lift and move heavy objects up to 100 pounds; use explosive force to break loose parts or move heavy items; bend or stoop repeatedly; perform other physical demands of heavy equipment repair. Equipment Mechanic II Typical Tasks and Representative Duties Inspects, lubricates, services and locates mechanical defects in trucks, tractors, mowers, motor graders, loaders, rollers, and other types of mechanical equipment used in construction, grounds maintenance and public works; makes major and minor mechanical repairs, including general overhauls; tears down, replaces and reassembles mechanical assemblies; repairs hydraulic and electrical systems; replaces and adjusts brakes on automobiles, trucks and equipment, overhauls and sharpens mower cutting units; does safety inspections on golf carts, heavy trucks, cranes and electrical equipment; changes and repairs tires; welds and fabricates steel components; operates trucks and other motorized equipment; keeps maintenance records and orders repair parts; and does other related work as required.Employment Standards Knowledge of :

Equipment Mechanic I A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Graduation from high school or a GED certificate and one year of journey worker experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of automotive and construction equipment, including experience in arc and gas welding. Equipment Mechanic II A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes: Graduation from high school or a GED certificate and three years experience in the maintenance, repair and overhaul of automotive and construction equipment, including arc and gas welding.
