Job Description

- Under limited supervision, studies, diagnoses, and resolves unusual problems encountered in the maintenance and repair of County vehicles and equipment.
The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Performs and leads highly complex diagnoses and repair of mechanical defects on automobiles, heavy trucks, and mechanical equipment. Performs preventive maintenance, overhaul, and repair services of automobiles, and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment and other gasoline and diesel driven motors; performs or assists with highly complex repairs. Performs a wide variety of skilled mechanic work, repairing, servicing and adjusting engine and automobile parts, e.g., hydraulic controls, air compressors, pumps and related equipment, fuel and exhaust systems, ignitions systems, electrical and brake components, transmissions, internal and external engine parts; changes oil, air filters, fuel filters, fan belts, radiator hoses, and sparkplugs; inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary parts; tunes and adjusts engines. Provide technical advice and assistance to mechanics on new or difficult and complex work and conduct road tests. Keep records of inspections, test results, work performed, track time, and parts used in fleet maintenance software. Read and interpret technical/service manuals, wiring/hydraulic diagrams, and service /recall bulletins. Performs emergency road service to vehicles and equipment outside of the maintenance shop. Remove and tear down components and assemblies such as engines, automatic transmissions, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, hydraulic systems, and power trains, then rebuild, adjust, reinstalls, aligns, and meshes components and assemblies. Repairs and welds automotive bodies; removes, repairs, and replaces component parts or assembles automotive systems Road tests the operation of vehicles and light trucks upon completion of repairs to ensure proper functioning and safe operating condition. Operates a wide variety of hand and power driver tools and equipment, e.g., grinders, fender hammers, sanders, drill presses, lathes, diagnostic and welding equipment; may perform simply oxy-acetylene and electrical welding. Must provide all necessary tools up to ¾" drive. Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position. This position is required to participate in On-Call rotation and may be required to work after normal business hours according to applicable County policy i.e.: Call Out or Emergency-Disaster. Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience:
Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors and heavy auto equipment, machinery, and tools or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment. (Tanker and Hazardous Materials Endorsements may be required) Must possess Fire Apparatus Technician- Level 1 and Ambulance Technician
- Level I Certifications or have the ability to obtain within four (4) years of employment.
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience:
Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel driven motors and heavy auto equipment, machinery, and tools or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Licenses/Certifications:
Must possess and maintain the following licenses/certifications: Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Tanker and Hazardous Materials Endorsements may be required) Fire Apparatus Technician- Level I Certification Ambulance Technician

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.Experience:

PHYSICAL DEMAND REQUIREMENTS
Physical Demand:
Heavy 100 pounds maximum lifting. Frequent (up to 2/3 of the work time) lifting, carrying up to 50 lbs. Expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken word or perceiving sound by ear. Good eyesight for production or safety of self and others. Physical demand requirements are in excess of medium work.
