Monday through Friday, except observed Federal holidays Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: The Mechanic EVT analyzes malfunctions, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains emergency vehicle equipment to include fire apparatus (Aerial, Foam Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Electrical Systems, and Advanced Electrical Systems) and commercial equipment.
Experience:
Diagnosing the source of trouble and determining the extent of repairs required. Replacing worn or broken parts such as piston rings, bearings, or other engine parts; grinding and adjusting valves, rebuilding carburetors; overhauling transmissions; and repairing fuel injection, lighting, and ignition systems. Determines general condition of vehicles or equipment, nature of malfunctions, and extent of needed repairs using equipment such as aligning machines, test equipment, gauges, oscilloscopes, stroboscopes, dynamometers, wheel balancing, etc. Checks condition and replaces all fluids, coolants, and lubricants as needed. Uses hoists, hand tools, power tools, and power equipment such as valve refining machines, brake drum lathes, aligning machines, etc. Maintains and cleans tools and equipment. Specifically, must service and maintain fire department pumpers, rescue vehicles, aerial devices, tankers, and wildland apparatus.
Marginal Functions:
Performs general preventive maintenance as assigned. Responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly. Provides assistance to lower-classification employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Supports Corporate Excellence in Customer Satisfaction Program. Responsible for conforming to all safe work practices and procedures.
Qualifications:
Four years of experience as an Emergency Vehicle Mechanic in an acknowledged commercial or governmental repair program. Must have full knowledge of and the ability to troubleshoot and repair both gasoline and diesel-powered internal combustion engines associated with power trains, air and hydraulic brake systems, and all other vehicular component parts. Must be able to read and comprehend technical manuals and publications to interpret mechanical specifications, tolerance limits, and troubleshooting and repair techniques. Must possess a valid state driver's license and be able to obtain applicable military driver's license within 30 days. May require CDL endorsements for equipment/vehicles operated. Must possess Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) certification. Specific positions require individuals to pass an annual physical examination. Specific positions may require the individual to possess or obtain a security clearance and/or pass a National Agency check.
Education :
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Minimum Qualifications:
Be a citizen of the U.S. Possess the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess knowledge and ability to perform simple arithmetic. Possess knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Possess excellent ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines. Possess the ability to work with minimal Government oversight. Possess a valid driver's license Team player, coach, teach, and mentor.
