Job Title:
Forklift Mechanic Job Description The Forklift Mechanic plays a key role in ensuring safe and efficient operations within a busy distribution environment by inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining forklifts and other material-handling equipment. This position focuses on minimizing equipment downtime, extending the life of critical assets, and supporting overall warehouse productivity through high-quality mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical work. Responsibilities Perform routine maintenance and scheduled inspections on forklifts and related material-handling equipment. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on forklifts and carry out accurate, timely repairs. Inspect and repair engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems on equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and extend the life of forklifts and other equipment. Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventory to support efficient maintenance operations. Ensure all equipment meets applicable safety and compliance standards before returning it to service. Collaborate closely with warehouse and operations teams to prioritize urgent repairs and minimize equipment downtime. Assist with maintenance and repair of other material-handling equipment, such as pallet jacks and order pickers, as needed. Use diagnostic tools, technical manuals, and schematics to troubleshoot complex issues and identify root causes. Follow established safety procedures and best practices while working in and around active warehouse operations. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience as a forklift mechanic or in heavy equipment repair. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including engines, transmissions, brakes, and related components. Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems used in forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Strong knowledge of electrical systems and the ability to diagnose and repair electrical faults. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and equipment documentation. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and repair equipment used for mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail. High school diploma or equivalent. Strong commitment to safety practices and regulatory compliance. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, bend, and work in tight spaces. Comfort working in warehouse and distribution environments with active equipment and operations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Technical certification in mechanics or a related field is preferred. Experience working specifically on forklifts and other material-handling equipment is preferred. Experience in troubleshooting complex mechanical and hydraulic issues in an industrial setting. Ability to work collaboratively with operations and warehouse teams to support productivity goals. Strong organizational skills for maintaining accurate service records, repair logs, and parts inventory. Why Work Here? You will use a variety of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic tools and repair equipment while following strict safety procedures in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting. Work attire should be practical and suitable for an industrial maintenance environment, including appropriate footwear and any required personal protective equipment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newnan, GA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
