Mobile Field Technician (Heavy Equipment)

About the Role Impact Rentals is looking for a seasoned Mobile Field Technician to join our team and represent us in the field. This is not an entry-level position — we need a proven technician who can roll up to a jobsite, assess the situation, and get equipment back up and running with minimal direction. If you're the kind of tech who works independently, communicates well, and takes pride in being the person a customer can count on, we want to talk. We are growing in the Savannah Coastal Region and have plans to build out a full team in the area. We already have equipment committed to large construction sites and need a skilled, independent Field Tech to work on the equipment as our first employee on the ground. You'll be dispatched across a roughly 60-80 mile radius of the Savannah Coastal Region (Savannah, Pooler, Hilton Head, Brunswick, etc.). You'll work on a diverse fleet of earthmoving machinery and aerial work platforms, handling everything from complex field diagnostics and hydraulic repairs to full mechanical troubleshooting — all from your company-provided truck. Service Area Primarily in Savannah and surrounding cities — including but not limited to: Savannah, Pooler, Hilton Head, Brunswick Surrounding communities within a 60-80 mile radius Candidates should ideally live in or near the Savannah area for efficient dispatch. Equipment You'll Work On Earthmoving Equipment Excavators, Dozers, Motor Graders (Rollers/Compactors) Brands including Cat, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere, and other major manufacturers Aerial Work Platforms Scissor Lifts - electrical and hydraulic systems Boom Lifts Brands including JLG, SkyJack, and similar What You'll Do Respond to field service calls across the service area and perform on-site diagnostics and repairs Perform advanced diagnostics on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems using computerized diagnostic tools and calibration equipment Identify root causes of faults quickly and accurately — not just replace parts, but solve problems Execute system repairs and overhauls in the field — engines, transmissions, hydraulics, and more Perform small welding and fabrication repairs (MIG, TIG, arc, and gas) as needed Collect and analyze fluid samples; report findings and any equipment abuse or neglect to the Service Manager Read and interpret OEM service manuals, technical drawings, and wiring diagrams Test and verify all equipment post-repair to ensure it meets manufacturer specifications Maintain accurate work orders, service records, and parts documentation Communicate professionally with customers on-site; deliver exceptional service at every touchpoint Adhere to all Impact Rentals safety policies and procedures What We're Looking For Experience & Skills 3-5 years of hands-on heavy equipment mechanics experience, preferably in a field service or mobile role Prior experience with a rental company or similarly structured operation strongly preferred Demonstrated expertise in field diagnostics (computerized and mechanical) Deep knowledge of hydraulic systems, including troubleshooting and repair Strong proficiency with earthmoving equipment and aerial work platforms Familiarity with Cat, Komatsu, Volvo, John Deere, JLG, SkyJack, and similar manufacturers Solid welding skills — arc, MIG, gas, and brazing Ability to read OEM service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical blueprints CDL is a plus, but not required Who You Are A self-starter who can own a repair from diagnosis to sign-off without hand-holding Comfortable managing your own schedule and routing in a fast-paced field environment Detail-oriented with a strong sense of urgency A clear, professional communicator — with both customers and your team Committed to safety Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold Why Impact Rentals?
