Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a motivated and skilled Part-Time Heavy Mechanic to join our family owned Trucking company. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining Class 8 trucks. This position offers an energetic environment where your mechanical expertise and hands-on skills will directly contribute to the safe and efficient operation of our equipment fleet. The ideal candidate is passionate about heavy machinery, possesses strong technical knowledge, and thrives in a fast-paced setting. Duties Perform detailed inspections and diagnostics. Conduct repairs and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, brakes, shocks & struts, and air brake systems. Fabricate parts or components as needed using welding, soldering, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication. Troubleshoot electrical systems and perform automotive diagnostics to identify issues accurately. Maintain detailed service records for all repairs performed; ensure compliance with safety standards and manufacturer specifications. Assist with assembly, disassembly, and replacement of mechanical parts; support preventive maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime. Requirements Proven experience working as a Heavy Mechanic or Service Technician. Strong mechanical knowledge across multiple systems including hydraulics, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning), electrical systems, and diesel engine repair. Ability to read schematics and technical manuals for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues. Skilled in welding, soldering, tire service, alignment procedures, and general automotive repair tasks. Familiarity with vehicle maintenance procedures including brake repair, shocks & struts replacement, transmission servicing and air brake systems. Capable of heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs or inspections. Excellent customer service skills to communicate effectively with clients or team members regarding repairs or maintenance needs. Valid certifications related to heavy equipment operation or mechanic specialties are a plus; relevant licenses or training in electrical or HVAC systems are advantageous.
