Job Description

To serve as a civilian employee of the Indiana State Police whose primary responsibility is to keep all state owned vehicles in the best mechanical operating condition by performing preventative maintenance and assigned repairs. Perform preventive maintenance as needed. Complete assigned repair work as required. Notify appropriate personnel on any visible major problems. Keep work orders up to date. Order parts and maintain garage stock room. Keep area of assignment clean and orderly. Periodically complete training for new procedures and skills needed to maintain state owed commissions. Perform the following repairs or preventative maintenance work on 3-prong accessories: antennas, camera systems, deck lights, flashlight systems, fuses, light bars, mirror lights, motorcycle and trailer wiring, computer docking station, and radio equipment. Maintain various logs. Use diagnostic equipment to trouble-shoot and find problems in the commission. Test drive commission to ensure it is in working order. Perform building custodian duties as required by the Division or District Commander. Perform other duties as required. Must be a high school graduate or possess equivalent GED. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be a graduate of an automotive trade school, or have at least two (2) years professional experience in automotive maintenance and repair. Must have the ability to distinguish and determine colors and sounds. Must have the ability to lift and move heavy objects. Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation.
