The Prince George's County Office of Central Services is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill a Master Equipment Mechanic ( Master Equipment Mechanic A) grade A19 position, in the Fleet Management Division. About the Position This is a highly skilled lead level mechanical position, whereby the incumbent performs preventive equipment/automobile repairs and maintenance on vans, trucks, buses, etc., as well as troubleshoots, diagnose, repairs, and/or rebuilds parts and components. Work is performed under general supervision of the Garage Supervisor and is evaluated in terms of adherence to established work production, timeliness, and policies and procedures. About the Agency The Office of Central Services is a multifaceted agency of the Prince George's County Government providing government-wide, mission critical support services in the areas of facilities operations and management, building design & construction, real estate services, fleet management, and general services. We make government operations operate better for the government. Utilizes computer-based diagnostic equipment, service/parts manuals to analyze and correct vehicle problems. Performs maintenance, inspection, and repairs of the following vehicle components; Engine and drive train, Computerized electronic ignition, Fuel/emissions systems, Suspension and steering related components in the front and rear drive vehicles, Air conditioning, heating, and cooling systems, Brake systems. Performs advanced diagnostics on vehicle systems including electronic control modules (ECMs), multiplex wiring systems, and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Accurately documents diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts issued, and labor hours in the fleet management database system. Performs and diagnoses minor road repairs and tows disabled vehicles in compliance with Maryland Vehicle Law and Division policies. Performs quality control inspections on vendor repairs, recalls, and mechanic services. Ensures all maintenance activities comply with applicable safety standards, environment regulations, and departmental policies. Provides technical guidance and trans personnel on safety/proper tow truck operations, procedures, and vehicle recovery. Supervises shop personnel during the Garage Supervisor/Assistant Garage Supervisor's absence. Performs other tasks and duties assigned, which may not be specifically listed in the position description; however, are within the general occupational category and responsibility level associated with the employee's class of work.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED), Three (3) years of experience in the maintenance, diagnosis and repair of a wide range of light to heavy motorized equipment, vehicles or fire and rescue apparatus, plus one (1) year of experience in a lead/coordinative role An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities may also be accepted.
Preferred Qualifications:
Possess an Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence. Has proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).

Conditions of Employment:
Upon selection, the candidate must (where applicable): Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency. Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties. Successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, and drug screenings. Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave. Be willing to work the evening shift. Be able to lift at least forty-five (45) pounds. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Possess and maintain a Department of Transportation Medical Certification Card.
