Job Description

Position Summary Richard E. Pierson Construction Co., Inc. is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our Equipment Division. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and performing preventative maintenance on a fleet of heavy civil construction equipment used in highway, site development, earthwork, utility, and paving operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, and undercarriage repair, with the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment efficiently to minimize downtime and keep projects moving safely and productively. Duties & Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction equipment including excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, rock trucks, skid steers, rollers, graders, and other off-road equipment. Perform preventative maintenance services, including inspections, fluid changes, lubrication, filter replacement, and equipment servicing. Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, powertrain components, braking systems, and undercarriage assemblies. Utilize diagnostic software, electronic testing equipment, and manufacturer service manuals to identify and resolve equipment issues. Inspect equipment for safety concerns, wear, damage, and compliance with company maintenance standards. Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and component replacement as needed. Safely operate equipment to verify repairs and diagnose mechanical issues. Maintain accurate service records, repair documentation, and maintenance logs. Coordinate with supervisors, operators, vendors, and parts personnel to ensure timely repairs and parts procurement. Qualifications & Requirements Must have at least 5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy construction equipment. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, transmissions, drivetrains, and heavy equipment diagnostics. Experience working on equipment such as: Excavators, Bulldozers, Rock Trucks, Motor Graders, Compactors/Rollers, Skid Steers, and Off-Road Haul Equipment. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, hydraulic schematics, and electrical diagrams. Experience using diagnostic software and electronic testing equipment. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. Valid driver's license required; CDL Class B or higher is a plus. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize multiple repair tasks. Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and team-oriented. Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and access equipment components. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on job sites. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces. Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
