Job Description

The City of Iron Mountain, Michigan will accept applications for a full-time light equipment operator position in the Public Works Department at the office of the City Clerk/Treasurer, 501 S. Stephenson Ave., Iron Mountain, MI 49801. This position requires that an individual be capable of operating all mechanized units of the City with the exception of those units classified as heavy or extra heavy equipment. The position has an hourly starting rate of $24.20, increasing to $25.20 after 6 months and will increase beyond the previously stated amounts with yearly increases negotiated through collective bargaining. Benefits include health insurance consisting of medical/Rx, dental, and vision; a pension plan that includes a defined benefit and defined contribution (457b) plan with an employer match; and vacation, sick and personal leave, and holiday pay. Applicant must be a high school graduate, must reside within a 20-mile radius of Iron Mountain City limits within six months from date of hire per Collective Bargaining Agreement and must possess a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class "A" with an endorsement for air brakes; undergo a pre-employment physical examination and DOT drug screening. Applicants without a CDL Class "A" will be considered if they have the desire and ability to obtain a CDL Class "A" within a timeframe established by the City.
