Job Description

RTL Equipment, Inc. is looking to hire a full-time Aggregate Field Mechanic based out of our Big Lake, Minnesota location. Aggregate Field Mechanic - Crushing & Screening Equipment (Big Lake, MN) RTL Equipment is seeking an experienced Aggregate Field Mechanic to service, diagnose, and repair crushing, screening, conveying, washing, and related aggregate equipment at customer locations throughout Minnesota and surrounding states. This position is ideal for a skilled heavy equipment technician who enjoys field work, solving mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues, and helping customers keep production equipment running safely and efficiently. The mechanic will operate from a service truck, travel to pits, quarries, and job sites, and work closely with customers, the Service Manager, parts department, and OEM representatives to complete repairs accurately and professionally. Experience with aggregate equipment is strongly preferred; however, RTL Equipment will provide manufacturer and dealer training to the right qualified technician.
Job Duties:
> Travel to customer job sites, pits, quarries, and aggregate production locations throughout Minnesota and surrounding states to diagnose, service, and repair crushing, screening, washing, conveying, and related aggregate equipment. Perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine troubleshooting and repairs on jaw crushers, cone crushers, impact crushers, screen plants, stackers, conveyors, feeders, generators, and support equipment. > Inspect machines to identify worn, damaged, or failed components, including bearings, rollers, belts, screens, jaws, liners, pumps, cylinders, valves, motors, wiring, sensors, and control systems. > Complete preventative maintenance services, equipment inspections, adjustments, and operational testing to help customers reduce downtime and keep production equipment running safely and efficiently. > Use diagnostic tools, meters, schematics, service manuals, and manufacturer resources to accurately troubleshoot AC / DC electrical systems, hydraulic circuits, and machine control systems. > Remove, repair, rebuild, and install components such as conveyors, screen media, crusher wear parts, hydraulic hoses, pumps, gearboxes, engines, and other major assemblies as needed. > Operate service truck safely and maintain proper inventory of tools, parts, fittings, hoses, fluids, and supplies needed to support field repairs. > Communicate with customers, the Service Manager, parts department, and OEM representatives to explain repair findings, request parts, coordinate service needs, and resolve equipment issues in a timely manner. > Document labor, travel time, parts used, diagnostic findings, photos, and repair notes accurately on work orders and service reports. > Follow all company, customer, MSHA, OSHA, DOT, and job-site safety requirements while working around mobile equipment, conveyors, crushers, screeners, lockout/tagout conditions, and active aggregate operations. > Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area at customer sites and ensure the service truck is kept safe, stocked, and presentable. > Provide professional customer service while representing RTL Equipment in the field, including follow-up communication to confirm equipment is operating properly after repairs are completed. > Be available for occasional overtime, overnight travel, and after-hours emergency field repairs as customer production needs require.
Job Requirements:
Minimum of 2-5 years of heavy equipment, diesel, field service, or related mechanical repair experience; technical degree or equivalent training preferred. Experience working on aggregate, crushing, screening, conveying, quarry, mining, or material processing equipment is strongly preferred. Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, drivetrains, pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, screen media, and crusher wear components. Ability to troubleshoot AC / DC electrical systems using a voltmeter, wiring diagrams, diagnostic software, and service manuals. Ability to read and interpret hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, parts manuals, and technical service information. Comfortable working independently in the field with limited supervision while making sound repair decisions and communicating updates clearly. Valid driver's license required; current DOT medical card, CDL, or ability to obtain one preferred. Ability and willingness to travel to customer locations throughout Minnesota and surrounding states, including occasional overnight stays, overtime, and after-hours emergency repairs as needed. Must be able to safely lift up to 70 lbs., climb on and around equipment, work outdoors in changing weather conditions, and perform physically demanding repair work in pit, quarry, and job-site environments. Must supply and maintain personal hand tools required for heavy equipment repair; specialty tools and diagnostic resources may be provided by the company as applicable. Strong communication and customer service skills with the ability to explain repair needs, coordinate parts, document work performed, and represent RTL Equipment professionally in the field. Ability to accurately complete work orders, service reports, time records, parts requests, photos, and repair documentation using company systems. Commitment to safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, proper guarding awareness, PPE use, and compliance with company, customer, MSHA, OSHA, and DOT requirements. Must be able to pass required pre-employment and ongoing drug testing. Our Big Lake location is conveniently located just off I-94, approximately 40 miles northwest of Minneapolis. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week position with opportunities for overtime.
