Agency Wildlife Resource Commission Division Operations , Technical Services Job Classification Title Maintenance/Construction Technician II (S) Position Number 60034006 Grade NC06 About Us The NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is the state government agency created to conserve and sustain the state's fish and wildlife resources through research, scientific management, wise use and public input. The NCWRC is the regulatory agency responsible for the enforcement of North Carolina's fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating laws. The agency has an operational budget of approximately $100 million and employs approximately 700 full-time staff and 100 seasonal temporary staff across the state, including wildlife and fisheries biologists and technicians, wildlife law enforcement officers, wildlife educators, communication specialists, and customer service, information technology and administrative professionals. The NCWRC Mission is to conserve North Carolina's wildlife resources and their habitats and provide programs and opportunities that allow hunters, anglers, boaters, and other outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy wildlife-associated recreation. Description of Work The primary purpose of the Engineering Services Division is to direct, plan and manage all engineering related projects for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. Primary programs include in house design, permitting, construction, capital improvements programs for the agency as well as, facilities management. This Division also manages the agency's Wildlife Inmate Services (WISE) program. Build, Operate, and Explore North Carolina's Outdoors The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission is looking for a skilled and motivated Maintenance/Construction Technician II (Boating Technician) to join our Engineering/Construction team. This is more than a job; it's an opportunity to help create and maintain the public spaces that connect people to North Carolina's waterways and natural resources. In this role, you'll play a hands-on part in building and maintaining boating access areas and other outdoor recreation facilities across the state. From launching ramps to docks and shoreline structures, your work will directly support anglers, boaters, and outdoor enthusiasts statewide. This position offers a flexible work week, (typically a 4-day workweek (10-hour days), giving employees an extended weekend each week) however, this may change depending on the needs of the agency. Projects are located across the state of North Carolina, the role also involves extensive statewide travel, including overnight travel during the workweek. This position offers a unique and rewarding experience for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, traveling to different locations, and seeing projects come to life across the state, In this role you will:
- Operate a wide range of heavy equipment, including tractors, dozers, excavators, loaders, graders, dump trucks, and hauling units.
- Use specialized tools and machinery to construct and maintain concrete boat ramps, wooden docks, bulkheads, and breakwaters.
- Work on the water using motorboats, barges, and other marine equipment.
- Assist with the construction, maintenance, and repair of fish hatchery facilities and equipment.
- Track project progress and complete essential documentation to support construction efforts.

RECRUITMENT RANGE
$35,596 - $52,500 MANAGEMENTPREFERENCES
- Experience with construction methods, equipment operation, and maintenance practices, building or maintaining boating or public fishing access areas.
- Reading blueprints and working with carpentry and concrete.
- Operating heavy equipment, outboard motors, chainsaws, winches, and other power tools.
- Using office software for documentation and project tracking.
- Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of preventative maintenance. Special Qualifications
- Valid North Carolina driver's license within 90 days of hire.
- Ability to obtain a North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within 12 months. Physical Requirements
- Ability to work primarily outdoors, in all kinds of weather conditions.
- Ability to perform manual labor, lifting medium to heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds daily.
- Ability to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
- Ability to wear safety equipment and follow established safety regulations and procedures.
Additional Requirements:
- Pre-employment drug / alcohol testing is required.
- Completion of release form and background statement allowing NCWRC to check with previous employees for the past two years about controlled substances and alcohol testing (if applicable).
