$51,269.32 - $56,153.55 • Additional salary growth available through regular increases within the classification up to $70,806.09 Job Summary Repair and maintain Highway Department vehicles, heavy equipment, and shop materials. Responsible for the duties that are given by the Shop Foreman or situations that arise on county fleet equipment and are resolved to the satisfaction of supervisors and the safety of others.

Summer hours:

Monday-Thursday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Winter hours:

Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Both seasons may have on call and overtime requirements. Scope of Responsibility Responsible for the assistance of maintenance on approximately one hundred fleet vehicles, heavy machinery, trailers, and miscellaneous equipment. General upkeep and maintenance of main facility and outlying shops. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform repair of equipment and troubleshoot problems. Communication with Shop Foreman, supervisors, equipment operators, and other staff about problems that may arise with equipment. Obtaining parts, inventory of supplies, record keeping, and delivering necessary parts to outlying shops. Maintenance and cleaning of shop equipment and grounds. Meeting with vendors and suppliers. Determine proper procedures for repair and fabrication of equipment. Able to operate equipment in absence of an operator and fill in for Shop Foreman as needed. Duties are flexible and depend upon the season and the weather. Minimum Qualifications Associates degree or a two-year college or technical school certification or degree in Diesel Mechanics/Heavy Equipment Operations is preferred 1-3 years of background in diesel mechanics/heavy equipment repair and operations Class B Commercial Driver's License with ability to obtain Class A within a year of hiring. Physical Demands and Working Conditions Shoveling, carrying, lifting, stooping, crawling, and other types of physical labor. Work will be inside and outside in all types of weather conditions. Tools, Equipment, Vehicles, and Machines Backhoes, dozers, motor graders, excavators, scrapers, loaders, tandem axle trucks, snowplows, semi, packers, trailers, shouldering machines, chip spreaders, welder, torch, tachometer, micrometer, caliper, overhead hoists, torque wrench, air compressor, air tools, hammers, drills, and other types of road construction equipment.
