Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Job Summary Kleis Equipment is opening a new branch in Avon, NY , and we are looking for a motivated Heavy Equipment Mechanic who is excited to help build a new store from the ground up. This is not just another mechanic position. This is an opportunity to be part of a growing dealership location from the beginning, help set the standard for our service department, and work with leading equipment brands including Bandit, KIOTI, DEVELON , and other construction, compact equipment, forestry, agricultural, and rental equipment lines. The right candidate is a team player, takes pride in their work, is willing to learn, and understands that in a new branch everyone may need to wear multiple hats. Some days may be shop repairs, some days may be road service, setup, inspections, rental prep, customer support, yard help, or helping the team get machines ready to sell, rent, or deliver. We are looking for someone who wants to grow with the Avon store and be part of building something long-term. Duties and Responsibilities Diagnose, service, and repair heavy equipment, compact equipment, tractors, forestry equipment, chippers, stump grinders, skid steers, compact track loaders, excavators, loaders, and rental equipment. Work on equipment from brands including Bandit, KIOTI, DEVELON , and similar brands such as Caterpillar, Bobcat, Kubota, John Deere, Takeuchi, Vermeer, Morbark, Case, New Holland, and others. Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, filters, grease, inspections, hydraulic service, tire service, brake repairs, engine service, and general preventative maintenance. Troubleshoot diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, DEF/emissions systems, drivetrains, attachments, and machine controls. Use OEM service information, wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, diagnostic tools, and technical manuals to complete repairs properly. Complete machine inspections, rental check-ins/check-outs, new equipment setup, used equipment reconditioning, and pre-delivery inspections. Perform repairs in the shop and, when needed, assist with road service calls at customer locations. Help maintain accurate work orders, service notes, inspection forms, parts requests, and repair documentation. Communicate with the Parts & Service Manager, Branch Manager, parts department, sales team, and customers when needed. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop, service truck, tools, and work area. Assist with loading/unloading equipment, yard organization, machine washing, and branch support as needed. Follow all safety procedures and represent Kleis Equipment professionally with customers and team members. Continue learning through OEM training, hands-on experience, and support from the Kleis Equipment team. Requirements Previous experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, diesel mechanic, agricultural mechanic, compact equipment mechanic, truck mechanic, or similar role. Strong mechanical ability and understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and general equipment repair. Experience with Bandit, KIOTI, DEVELON , or similar equipment brands is preferred but not required. Ability to diagnose problems, work independently, and complete repairs correctly and efficiently. Ability to read service manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and parts diagrams. Must be dependable, organized, and willing to be part of a team-first environment. Must be willing to help in different areas of the branch as the Avon store grows. Must have a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Valid driver's license required. CDL, welding/fabrication experience, air conditioning certification, or OEM training is a plus but not required. Must be physically able to lift, bend, climb, work outside, work around heavy equipment, and perform mechanic duties safely. About Kleis Equipment Avon Kleis Equipment is expanding with a new location in Avon, NY , serving customers throughout the Rochester, Finger Lakes, and Western New York region. Our Avon branch will focus on equipment sales, rentals, parts, and service for construction, forestry, landscaping, municipal, agricultural, and property maintenance customers. Our main equipment lines include DEVELON construction equipment, Bandit chippers and stump grinders, and KIOTI tractors and compact equipment , along with other related equipment and attachments.
