Job Summary:
The Mobile Trailer Mechanic is responsible for performing on-site maintenance and repairs on commercial trailers to ensure they remain in safe, roadworthy condition. This role involves traveling to customer locations, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and performing repairs—often without the benefit of a full-service shop environment.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Site Diagnosis & Repair:
Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues on trailers at customer locations.
Preventive Maintenance:
Conduct routine maintenance services and perform required annual inspections.
Component Repairs & Replacements:
Repair or replace worn or damaged components such as brakes, tires, suspensions, lights, and wiring.
Basic Welding & Fabrication:
Perform light welding and fabrication tasks as needed for structural repairs.
Service Truck Operation:
Maintain and operate a company-provided service truck, including parts inventory and tool management.
Documentation:
Accurately record all services performed using a mobile device or service platform and report findings to dispatch and management.
Safety Compliance:
Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA regulations while working independently in the field.
Communication:
Work closely with dispatch and management to provide updates, clarify repair needs, and ensure customer satisfaction.
General Work schedule:
10 hours per day
  • Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work
  • Overtime after 40 hours per week
  • 10 hours overtime minimum per week
Skills & Qualifications:
Technical Knowledge:
Strong understanding of trailer mechanical and electrical systems.
Diagnostic Ability:
Skilled in identifying and resolving a wide range of mechanical problems.
Repair Proficiency:
Experience with brake systems, air systems, lights, suspensions, and tire replacements.
Welding Ability:
Competency in basic MIG or stick welding for repairs and light fabrication.
Communication:
Clear and professional verbal communication skills for interacting with customers and dispatch.
Problem-Solving:
Able to assess challenges on-site and find effective repair solutions.
Safety Focus:
Knowledge of and adherence to safe work practices and DOT regulations.
Technology Use:
Comfortable using a mobile device or tablet for job tracking and reporting.
License:
Valid Class B driver's license required to operate company service vehicle.
Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of trailer repair or related mechanical experience.
