  • 38 per hour (based on experience and performance) Position Summary The Tier 3 Heavy Equipment Mechanic
  • Lead Technician is a senior-level expert responsible for advanced diagnostics, major repairs, and technical leadership within the shop.
This role serves as the subject matter expert for aerial lifts and telehandlers, ensuring the highest standards of safety, repair quality, and operational excellence. The Lead Tech also plays a key role in mentoring and supporting Tier 1 and Tier 2 mechanics. Key Responsibilities Perform expert-level diagnostics and repairs on electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, and diesel systems Lead complex repairs, including boom rebuilds, structural assessments, and control system repairs Conduct and verify Annual Inspections in compliance with ANSI and manufacturer standards Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert for aerial lift and telehandler equipment Provide hands-on coaching, training, and troubleshooting support to Tier 1 and Tier 2 technicians Review completed repairs to ensure quality, safety, and adherence to manufacturer guidelines Assist with shop workflow coordination and organization Communicate repair timelines, estimates, and technical findings to supervisors and sales staff Participate in equipment evaluations and provide recommendations for fleet improvement Qualifications Minimum of 5 years of experience working with heavy equipment or aerial lifts Expert-level diagnostic skills across all major systems (electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, diesel) Proven ability to read, interpret, and apply complex schematics and service manuals Prior experience leading or training technicians strongly preferred Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy Valid driver's license required Industry certifications (JLG, Genie, MEC, ANSI, etc.) are a plus Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods Frequent use of hands, arms, and tools Ability to safely climb equipment and work at heights Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces Capability to lift, push, and pull 50-75 lbs routinely Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions Clear vision for inspections, diagnostics, and detailed repair work Ability to work safely around moving and operating equipment About OHR Rents OHR Rents specializes in the rental, sale, and service of general construction equipment, aerial work platforms, and telehandlers.
