Job Description

Knik Construction Co., Inc. is one of the largest and most geographically diverse civil and heavy construction companies in the state of Alaska. We work with DOT Agencies, FAA-regulated airports, boroughs, and privately owned contractors who trust us to ensure jobs run smoothly. An extensive fleet of equipment allows us to work anywhere in Alaska and beyond that is accessible by air, land, and sea on projects of all sizes. As the premier civil and heavy construction company in Alaska, we lead transportation construction and maintenance while producing almost all of our products. Knik Construction is seeking an experienced Mechanic to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Caterpillar equipment, asphalt paving equipment, and rock-crushing plants. This is a seasonal position requiring travel and living on-site at remote project locations throughout Alaska. Davis-Bacon wages apply where applicable.
Pay:
$55-$82 per hour, depending on experience/project. This position typically involves long hours and substantial overtime during the construction season. Key Responsibilities Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy equipment and mechanical systems, including engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyors, and production machinery Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment Communicate with coworkers across various job sites to coordinate repairs and maintenance needs Work closely with Superintendent to ensure equipment issues are addressed promptly Complete required paperwork and documentation for shop and equipment needs Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards Perform additional duties as assigned Work Requirements Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills Ability to work efficiently in a high-production environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to produce high-quality work with minimal supervision Ability to respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines Mechanics are required to supply their own basic hand tools Valid driver's license required Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen CDL highly preferred Education, Training & Experience Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college/technical school, or two years of related experience and training Knowledge of parts books and parts ordering for heavy equipment Strong working knowledge of heavy construction equipment Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach Ability to use hands and fingers to handle tools and controls Ability to lift and move 50 pounds or more as needed Must be able to work in all weather conditions At Knik Construction Co., Inc., we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and we are committed to an environment of mutual respect, diversity, and inclusion.
