Job Description

Landfill Technician Job Description This role involves installing, inspecting, rebuilding, troubleshooting, and repairing pumps and related equipment that support daily landfill operations, as well as performing general maintenance tasks to ensure reliable system performance. Responsibilities Install, inspect, rebuild, troubleshoot, and repair pumps and other equipment used in daily landfill operations. Perform routine and corrective maintenance on pumps and associated systems to ensure safe and efficient operation. Assist with general labor tasks on site, including construction-related duties as needed. Use hand tools and basic mechanical skills to complete installation, service, and repair activities. Support operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and vac trucks as needed, under appropriate guidance. Perform outdoor labor in all weather conditions, including tasks similar to carpentry, deck building, and landscaping. Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in a landfill environment. Adapt to a variety of job duties throughout the day, moving from task to task based on operational needs. Be available for overtime, including early starts, late finishes, and occasional Saturday work as required. Maintain a driving record that will meet company standards for future use of company vehicles and travel to other sites. Essential Skills At least 1 year of experience working on a construction job site. At least 1 year of general labor experience in a physically demanding role. Ability to use hand tools safely and effectively for installation, maintenance, and repair work. Mechanical aptitude and experience performing basic repairs or troubleshooting on equipment. Comfort working outdoors in all weather conditions and in a landfill environment with dirt, debris, and odors. Willingness and ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods. Flexibility to work overtime, including early mornings, late days, and occasional Saturdays. Ability to meet motor vehicle record (MVR) standards required for future operation of company trucks and regional travel. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with heavy equipment such as skid steers or bobcats is a plus. Experience operating a vac truck is highly desirable. Experience in carpentry, deck building, landscaping, or similar outdoor labor roles is beneficial. Prior experience with installation or troubleshooting of mechanical systems is a strong plus. Comfort working in a small crew environment and collaborating closely with a team of approximately eight people. Why Work Here? Work Environment You will work at a landfill site in Murfreesboro, TN, supporting the maintenance of the leachate system. While you will not handle garbage directly, the environment will be dirty and carry landfill odors, and you must be comfortable working in these conditions every day. The role is entirely outdoors and requires working in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind. Standard hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with frequent opportunities and expectations for overtime, including early starts, late finishes, and possible Saturday shifts. The team is relatively small, and you will often rotate between different tasks throughout the day, sometimes taking breaks or lunch at varying times depending on workload. You may assist with operating vac trucks and working around heavy equipment such as skid steers and bobcats, using a range of hand tools and mechanical equipment. When converted to a permanent role, you may drive company trucks and travel to other regional sites, subject to meeting driving record requirements. Dress should be appropriate for a dirty, outdoor industrial setting, with practical workwear and suitable footwear for rugged conditions. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Murfreesboro, TN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
