POSITION TITLE
Kitchen Equipment Mechanic
EXEMPTION STATUS
Non-exempt
REPORTS TO
Director of Child Nutrition Programs
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
12 months
HOURLY SALARY RANGE
Minimum $23.96, Midpoint $28.87, Maximum $33.78
Primary Purpose:
Install, repair and maintain kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, ovens, stoves, ice machines, mixers, and serving equipment.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of electrical circuits, wiring, operating principles of motors, and kitchen equipment
Knowledge of current electrical codes and ordinances
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to use hand and power tools
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
Ability to drive automatic and standard transmission vehicles
Experience:
One to three years related experience
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Maintenance and Repairs
Observe mechanical devices in operation and listen to determine causes of problems.
Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
Screw, bolt, rivet, weld, and braze parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes.
Start system, observe operation, read gauges and instruments, and adjust mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system.
Interpret schematic diagrams for equipment installations.
Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
Repair or replace defective parts. Install special functional and structural parts in devices. Lubricate and clean parts.
Start equipment to test performance.
Initiate price quotes and purchase order for parts and machines.
Participate in staff development training programs, staff meetings, and special events as assigned.
Safety
Operate tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor or director.

Work around machinery with moving parts; work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven surfaces; work with electrical lines; exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, toxic materials and chemicals; exposure to loud noises, vibration, and electrical hazards; work in tight or enclosed spaces
